Artist History
In an age where many new bands are simply becoming carbon copies of the sounds and images of years past, it’s nice to see a band emerge with an original production of sound and energy. Welcome to the music of the Atlanta based band Execution is Everything. Their music is a combination of heavy riffs, strong vocals, and a driving charged drumbeat that will leave you stunned and wanting more. Lyrically, the band has a wide array of subjects, ranging from pop culture to politics and personal mindsets. Musically, they have been described as having a groovy rocking sound which comes through with an intense energy. While listing such influences as Sepultura, Corrosion of Conformity and Annihilator, Execution is Everything has emerged with a groove-thrash sound that is uniquely their own. Reviewers have compared their style of music with such artists as Zakk Wyldes Black Label Society, Down, and Pantera. Execution is Everything has a mixture of styles and sounds that would appeal to any music lover.
Execution is Everything was originally formed in November 2000 by Matt Bailey (vocals/guitars), Ryan Landry (drums), and Chris Buchanan (bass) under the working name, Blind Society. The guys had met in high school and jammed together in a metal parody band before turning to a more serious project. The band began writing songs and practicing in preparation for their first live show. By March 2001, the band felt they needed a new name for their group that better summed up their views on life in general. It was then that Blind Society became Execution is Everything. Now, with a new name, a website, and music in hand, Execution is Everything was ready for the stage.
The band debuted at The Somber Reptile in Atlanta on June 6th, 2001. After a great reception from the local crowd, the band decided it was time to put together a CD. They began work at Warfish Studios, and emerged two days later with a three-song demo entitled, The Way Things Are. It was referred to by metal-rules.com as a groove laden, sludgy, head banging demo that gives us a taste of what is yet to come. The demo was well received by listeners, gaining airplay not only on area Georgia stations, but also in West Virginia, New York, and Vermont.
Just as things began to look promising, the group faced one of the toughest tests a band can face. After eight months, musical differences arose, resulting in bassist Buchanan’s departure from the band. Without a key player, the two remaining members now had to decide if they wanted to find a new member and try to move forward with the band. The answer was easy. Bailey and Landry began auditioning new players, but it was difficult to find a replacement that had the skills, drive, and commitment that was at the heart of their band. Even so, they continued their search while using the downtime to work on new music. When they had almost given up hope of finding their new bass player, the guys happened upon Joel Johnson. Though the three had met a few times at area shows, Bailey and Landry did not know that Johnson was an experienced bass player who had been looking for a band. That particular night, the conversation turned toward their music. Johnson was interested in what he heard and set up an audition for the following weekend. Only minutes into the audition, Bailey and Landry knew their search was over, and Johnson was welcomed into the band. They brought him up to speed on their music and hit the road as a three-piece band, playing shows from Atlanta to Chattanooga.
After a few shows with this new lineup, the band knew something was still missing. Their songs had been originally written for two guitars, one rhythm and one lead. They felt limited without this second guitar player who could take over the lead parts and allow Bailey to focus more on his vocals. Landry remembered being impressed with the skill of guitarist Seth Clovis, that he’d seen playing with another band at a local club. Execution is Everything contacted Clovis with an invitation to come check out their music, hoping he would be interested in joining them. Clovis and Landry met first for a few jam sessions and each discovered that their musical styles and personalities meshed. Early in October, Clovis traveled with the band to observe an actual show before making his final decision. He called Landry the next morning and the lineup was complete! Within two weeks, Clovis joined the band on stage for the first time, and the resulting sound was a perfect fit.
Execution is Everything is currently preparing to head into the studio once again to begin work on their first full length CD, to be out in 2002. In the mean time, look for a live show near you. If you’ve been searching for a band that fans and reviewers describe as having a strong heavy guitar sound with killer riffs, or where vocals are a perfect match to the music, and the drums and bass are kicking, then look no further than Execution is Everything.
