Artist description
There are only a handful of artists that cut so deep into to the issues of our society with such frankness and passion. You can look forward to listening to many more 'ill-beats', as we ride and roll with another soon-to-be-imitated west coast producer, Don Kona, and his HOTBOX Music. |
 |
Music Style
Intricate beating-down-the-block, bottom-heavy music that demands a top-notch, thumping system to truly appreciate. |
 |
Musical Influences
Innovators like Funkadelic, Bootsy Collins, Ohio Players, Curtis Mayfield, Public Enemy, Dr. Dre, Scarface, Ant Banks, and Timbaland |
 |
Similar Artists
Unlike anything else out; Founded on principles of the pounding beat, the original flow, the deep lyric, and the non-stop hot-boxing. |
 |
Group Members
Lunatik, Spook, Killwill, Na'rated, and Möwett are a few of the artists in Kona's HOTBOX, but he says he'll work with anybody that has "ill-ass original mo-jo", they don't even have to hot-box to kick it, but they got to be "speaking the real, yah'mean?" After spending two years marinating in the south and Midwest, he's added more talent to his roster, focusing on 'flow' and originality. |

Press Reviews
"The Same Thang" is the title of Don Kona's debut solo release, yet the first thing that comes to mind is, not the same 'thang'. Conceived, produced, and paid for by Don Kona, in the true 'spirit' of hip-hop music. The Same Thang is bound to be one of those 'you gotta have it' CD's (and with 20+ tracks?!). Rarely do we get to see this kind of freedom and creativity in urban music anymore, especially since the global commercial explosion of hip-hop within the past few years. The overall atmosphere he delivers just might leave you feeling a little 'higher' than usual, with his own style of sound and techniques to create his "HOTBOX" environment |
