Artist History
Carrie Katz picked up her guitar at 17 and secretly began writing songs. She studied
classical voice, dance and improv theatre all in the attempt to overcome her extreme
shyness. She began to hone her craft at coffee houses and events throughout southern
Ontario.
Seeking adventure Carrie embarked on a musical-juggling tour of Europe's finest
streets. She was a busker who learned how to engage an audience. Back home she
plunged right into Montreal's music scene as backup and then as a lead singer and
passionately embraced music styles that she now draws on such as Reggae, World
Beat and Rock. Opening for The Box, the International Reggae Festival and a musical in
Los Angeles, she continued to explore her own voice & innate song writing ability. She
draws her inspiration from personal experience seen through poetic eyes. Music and
Carrie's muse kept her busy, performing in established venues such as Theatre Gesu,
Theatre Lavadure, and Lion D'or
Carrie Katz formed her band 4 years ago. The band has grown to include Michel Maillé
(drummer), J. Marc Bérubé (base and vocals), and the newest member,
blues-rock guitarist Alain Tremblay. She is ecstatic that the chemistry between the
musicians has finally solidified the groove & spirit of her songs. Since their debut
concert at Le Building Danse, they have performed at Club Zone, Clyde's, Le Swimming
and played the Festival du Marathon du Musique Mondial. The band was thrilled to be
one of the select few invited to perform at Le Swimming's 10th Anniversary Bash,
sharing the stage with local favorites such as Crazy Rhythm Daddies, Parkside Jones,
Pigeon Hole, Shades of Culture, Sky Juice, Stop Ska Allstars and Soul Fish. Her
sensitivity to the injustices of the world and those less fortunate embroiders her lyrics,
which are often laced with social commentary. When asked to participate in the 1st
annual Ovaries in Overdrive (also held at Le Swimming), a fundraising event for Ovarian
Cancer on International Women's Day, she was honoured to be amongst those invited
to perform in this bilingual, all female musical showcase hosted by Christine
Long(CFCF). This musical extravaganza included Jo Bocan, Marie Chantal Tupin,
Stephanie Biddle, Gabriel Destroismaisons, Jai and Pigeon Hole.
