Artist History
It all began in the winter of 1992, when bassplayer Filip Dupont, the only original member of the band, came up with the idea of starting a death metal band. This idea was put into action in early 1993 under the name Last Funeral. After some years of rehearsing and making ungodly amounts of noise we released our debut demo "Last Funeral" in 1996. Later that year Bart Goffinghs joined us as lead vocalist.
Problems arose during the recording of our second demo in 1998. We had to record "The August symphony" completely by ourselves on a computer, because the studio recordings were total crap and the producer was a big rip-off. Most reactions we got were quite good. The only complaint was the sound quality. Yet it was the best we could do, given our negative studio experience.
Later that year, we recorded "The dreamvoyage", a song of 20 minutes. We aimed to release it sometime as some sort of an extra or as something for those interested. In July 2000 we recorded our third release, entitled "Burning dreamworlds". Days of hard work resulted in 4 tracks. We also thought of this demo cd as the ideal opportunity to add "The dreamvoyage" as an extra track. Incidentally, during this recordings, guitarist-to-be Joris Timmermans spent a day in the studio doing the clean vocals for a song.
Since the start of the new millennium we've changed our name to the Quiescent, a better representation of what we stand for: melodic Swedish-sounding death metal like At the Gates, Dismember, Soilwork, Eucharist and others...
Later on both our guitarist and drummer left the band. Neverteless we recorded "Silent painted hate" in the summer of 2002: a work of perseverance in dark times for the band, and a fitting tribute to the great times we've had with our past line-up. After these recordings we took a 6 month break to come back at full force with new members! Hans Wijnen joined us as second guitarist and some months later Marco Vreven took the empty spot behind the battery!
The Quiescent played live with Dew-Scented, Soilwork, God Dethroned, Ancient, Aborted, In-Quest, Bifrost, Rebaelliun, Prejudice, Iconoclasm, Panchrysia, Inhume and many more!

Press Reviews
Musketeer of De@th (review of St Niklaas gig): "These talented musicians make metal which is a joy for the ear. Although they started with a terrible sound, they immediately got the attention of the crowd. Great melodic death/black full of beautiful guitar fights between the two guitarist. The same can be said of the two vocalists. A deep brutal death growl dueled the immense filthy blackscream. And when the sound was getting better during their set brutality and power were raising high, without losing any melody. I guess I fell in love with this band. They deserved much more than this small audience, hopefully they get revenge in the near future." |
