Artist History Hello. We are SULLEN. We are a rock band from St. Louis, Missouri. (Heard of Chuck Berry, Miles Davis, T.S. Eliot, Vincent Price?) 1999: The mystery band from the suburbs led by a girl & a boy barely outta their teens is being talked about around town after a first gig at a dive called: The Way Out Club. "After just a few gigs and a five-song demo CD, Sullen secured a hot degree of fan attention around town, the group providing an indie spark that's been missing around here for a bit." -Thomas Crone, Music Writer, Citysearch.com "Mumbling about Sullen has become commonplace within a segment of the St. Louis rock community. "My hope for the future or rock in St. Louis,' says one fan." -Randy Roberts, Music Editor, St. Louis Riverfront Times Club bookers started to call Sullen to open for national touring bands. "[Sullen] can handle it; onstage, they seem like veterans. No apparent frayed nerves, no self-consciousness, no attitude. They seem like they've been playing for years" -Randy Roberts, Music Editor, St. Louis Riverfront Times 2000: Sullen opens for Local H, who asked Shanna to do lead vocals on a track on their new record & then took Sullen along on a Midwest/Eastcoast tour along with Dovetail Joint. Sullen sold out of all 400+ of their independently made EPs, and gained a big fanbase. Sullen nominated for "Best New Band" & "Best Punk" in the Riverfront Times Music Awards! 2001: Sullen record a 10 song CD in their basement (on their 8 track reel to reel), of which they have sold 500+ at their shows & in local record shops. Sullen have played hundreds of shows in the Midwest, opening for bands like: Verbena, The Catheters, Veruca Salt, The Pansey Divison, The Frogs, Jucifer, and others. Sullen are nominated again as "Best Rock" in 2001 Riverfront Times Music Awards! St. Louis radio stations KDHX 88.1 and KPNT 105.7 regularly include Sullen on their playlists, and invite Sullen in for on-air performances & interviews. 2002: March--Sullen win "Best Hard Rock" category in the Riverfront Times Awards! June--Sullen appear on the first edition of "The St louis Rock Scene Trading Cards." Sullen start getting calls from MCA, Island & Warner Bros. A & R Reps and managers. Sullen recorded some demos with Wes Kidd (triplefastaction) at Silent Partner Management (cheap Trick, Joey Ramone), then cut a 10 song LP with Andy Gerber at Chicago's Million Yen studios entitled "Paint The Moon." July--Sullen are asked to do a 3 week tour of the south and west with Los Angeles based punkers Custom Made Scare. September--Sullen release their LP entitled "Paint The Moon." Like Thomas Crone said at the end of his St. Louis Citysearch.com review: "St. Louis needed (heck, needs) this band right now. Buy/beg/steal the demo and wait to see what happens. It might be worth a bit of coin someday."
