Artist History
Formed after the demise of popular CT band, Radio Phlyer, Thom, Mike and Garret hooked up with John, formerly of Static and Carrie to form a power-pop emo band with their name taken from a term in one of Garret's film classes. They have since played with many local acts all over CT and elsewhere in clubs such as Toad's Place, The Webster Theatre and CBGB, and have played with national acts, such as Bif Naked, the River City Rebels, Shades Apart, Showoff and more, needless to say, Lorenji Shift can fit in just about anywhere! All of the band members share different tastes in music, which come together in the band beautifully. Mike has been playing the piano since he was four years old. The McVaney household is no stranger to musical talent either, Garret's younger brother Ethan was the lead singer of Radio Phlyer and now little Jesse is hitting the skins in his own band. |

The Hartford-based Lorenji Shift rapidly shifts gears from straight alternative rock to chirpy personable pop bable, thanks to the endearing chirp of lead vocalist Carrie. There used to be so many bands working this particular cute voice, grungy guitars, madcap drumming(press materials say that drummer Garrett was given a Muppets drum kit for his 7th birthday) but nowadays its a refreshing novelty. The four-song demo begins with the churning "America" ("I'm gonna write a letter and start a fire"), then slows down for the comparatively gentle but brisk ballad "Hope," then gets moody and slow with the soul-searching "All That I Remember." That song quickly picks up speed. (This is a happily impatient band, eager to vary tones and rhythms.) The sampler ends with "450," another slow-starter that builds to a swooning intensity. What a frisky, peppy act.
