Artist description
Gabriel Teodros is an ethiopian scottish irish comanche mesquaki freedom fighter, emcee, and aspiring healer. He uses the language of love as a practice of freedom, and does music simply to reclaim his humanity while sharing inspiration with the people he walks with.
Known for rocking microphones with intensity and integrity around the northwest region (and beyond) since early '98, and as a member of the hip hop collective 500 Years and spoken word family known as The Poetry Experience, Gabriel organized shows, hosted ongoing open-mic sessions, facilitated endless classroom workshops, and has shared stages with the likes of Medusa, Saul Williams, Abstract Tribe Unique, Spearhead, isangmahal arts kollective, Source of Labor, and many more.
Gabriel independently released his first solo album "Sun To A Recycled Soul" in the summer of 2001. The album takes you through a whole range of emotions, and while the mixes are dirty at times, you have to appreciate it's honesty. It is a message of hope that features production from the likes of FingerPrints, Khazma 247, Professor Macklemore and Ms.Understood; along with a roster of guest vocalists including Khalil Crisis, Orko the Sycotik Alien, Deps Pnuemonik, Elevated Elements and Ritual Poetic Forms.
Fall of 2001, in the wake of post-9/11 propaganda and the medias attack on our psyche, Gabriel linked up with long-time collaborater, friend, and fellow Pangean, Khazma 247, to co-executive produce the compilation "911 Amerika". The album featured over 40 different artists from the Northwest who all spoke out against the racism, imperialism, and deception the u.s. government is responsible for.
Currently, Gabriel is working with Khalil Crisis on the Abyssinian Creole project; a group formed out of two brothers common struggles with love, identity, and a unified will to live. Whether it's in the classroom, or on the street corner, on stage, fighting patriarchy, or building in the pages of AWOL Magazine, you can find Abyssinian Creole forever transforming and stretching the boundaries of what you thought hip hop was... look out for collaborations coming soon with Cristina Orbe', MADK Productions, DJ Ian Head, Moka Only and the City Planners.
