Press Reviews
The great thing about Vershki Da Koreshki – something like “roots and leaves” – is that everybody seems to be staying true to their traditional techniques, yet the end result is a completely new music which sounds like they’ve played it all their lives.
(…)Whether the jazz snots, folk police and style fascists like it or not, there really is some World Music being made. And this is a brilliant example. / Ian Anderson, FolkRoots, Jan/Feb ’97
The group’s approach couldn’t be more straightforward: the musicians would select a major chord and explore it for the duration of a song, crafting a dry, windblown sound – the ideal soundtrack to a walkabout. It made a perfect sense to enjoy Vershki Da Koreshki as a Russian answer to Origon…”
/ Mark Keating, RhythmMusic sept. 98, page 52
“Improvising is important in our music, so we don’t loose contact with the present… I see ourselves as four individuals in the first place, after that as representatives of different cultures. Making individuals communicate with one another, that’s what it’s all about.”
/ interview with Alexei, Utrechtse Dagblad, NL
... This music rooted in the traditions of four musicians, but certainly not bound by it. .. Yet this is fresh music - real fun for the mind as it engages the soul
/ Sule Greg C. Wilson; RhythmMusic, April 98, page 51
