Artist History
The history begins and ends in Sean's basement. Sean was turned on to unconventional meters & time signatures by his first composition teacher, the great jazz arranger Hank Levy (a former staff arranger for the Stan Kenton and Don Ellis Big Bands). The selections contained on this site represent works created while completing a doctorate in music at the Peabody Institute of Music in Baltimore, MD. Although Sean majored in bassoon performance, he studied electronic/computer music and recording arts & sciences quite extensively. |

Sean,
Nice stuff; great keys. On Hiatus the 5+6 works really well in the main groove; almost sounds normal. Guess I got some downloading to do.
I'll get back soon,

I've listened to some of your things before, and I really don't know what to say about them. They're definately good, but it's too intellectual for me

Hi Sean!
You're the very first artist I meet here on mp3c that really knows his musical theory. I'll be straight: your music is the most sophisticated music I've heard on mp3 till now - it's very clear that you know your stuff - very nice chords and great odd metres. I love that!

Sean I liked Inside Outside Upside-down the best although I thought all of your mateial was extremely well constructed with precision and grace every step of the way.

Sean, I enjoyed your music quite a bit, you have a flair for mixing odd time signatures with pleasant melodies and solos that don't sound like noodling.

Sean, I really enjoyed your stuff. The odd meters give it some rhythmic life, you have some interesting harmonic twists, and obviously an interest in structures beyond the standard song forms. A couple of moments stood out as very effective: one was the end of Hiatus IV, where you superimposed your melodic line against itself (there's the "counter" in counterpoint) for a really nice polyrhythmic effect; the other was in the middle of Odd Funk-n-stuff where you had a melody in running eighths against some thick chords, playing the quick-shifting meter against the slower harmonic rhythm.

I really enjoyed the gradual build of the groove on your song "Hiatus IV"

Sean,
you have got some pretty amazing compositions up. It comes to mind that you could probably do some fantastic work scoring movies. You have a great ability to grab elements people are familiar with and stretch them into something new.

Sean, your music is great! But your page seems to suggest it's pretty wierd, and to be honest, it sounds like good solid fusion to me.
