    Artist History
Rippopotamus was formed by a singular alignment of cosmic energies combined with secret bio-chemical testing done under the auspices of D.O.D at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. These unusual circumstances both created the band and made them incredibly funky, but also had unfortunate side effects. Most of the band were left hopelessly white (or melanin challenged for those of you PC leanings). In spite of this the band proceeded to inflict the funk on the masses starting in 1990. This was just the beginning of a series of unfortunate and little understood incidents involving the band. In 1992, the band were baffled to receive the award from The Valley Advocate Readers Poll, since none of the band members had ever even heard of the publication. Shortly thereafter the band found itself in Boston, they think as the result of a bender, but no one can remember. Once again, strange things occurred, when a series of grievous clerical errors result in the band receiving a Boston Music Award and Honorable Mention in a Billboard Songwriting contest. The latter truly confused the band as none of them considered themselves honorable and no song was ever submitted. Shortly thereafter, the band became totally lost in northern Vermont and found themselves in Canada. The Canadian Border Patrol refused to let the band leave the country until they had performed in front of thousands in the rain at The Montreal Jazz Festival. The band insists that the Border Patrol Representatives were inebriated. The Canadian Government has refusd to comment. In early 2000, the band released a single entitled “Superstar” and then quickly publicly renounced the song claiming that they had been psychically controlled by an unnamed Boston pop band. No one would comment further, except Saxophonist and noted Slabologist Dr. Gregorus Slabulapoulous, who remarked when asked about the song “Bad scene man, bad scene”. Currently the band are avoiding several paternity suits while Trumpeter Mr. Winky fulfills his obligations as her alter-ego “Ricky Martin”.
