Artist History
Hailed by critics as "A high-energy mix of Take 6 and Boyz II Men that'll simply knock your socks off!" (JazzBeat), measureXmeasure (measure by measure) is an a cappella sensation that proves the human voice is indeed the most versatile of all instruments. mXm uses no drum machines, synthesizers, pre-recorded material or instruments of any kind. Every sound, whether it be soaring five-part vocal harmonies or jaw-dropping vocal percussion and bass, is produced live by the voices of these five young men. Originally formed in 1995 as a student group at the University of Kansas, the Kansas City-based quintet now travels coast-to-coast year-round headlining concerts halls, festivals and college campuses everywhere. Employing elements of pop, rock, funk, soul, r&b, jazz and classical music, measureXmeasure takes the listener on a journey covering a broad range of musical landscapes and emotions. Its electrifying concerts are characterized by critically acclaimed original compositions, innovative vocal arrangements, rousing audience participation, and stylish choreography. The group has appeared with Earth, Wind & Fire; the Beach Boys; Nickelback; Bela Fleck & the Flecktones; the Gin Blossoms; Medeski, Martin & Wood; and many other international artists. Its latest CD, "We're Back", is receiving regular radio play on specialty shows across four continents - resulting in a growing international fan base for the group. Currently the band is working on a new studio album slated for a Fall 2002 release, and a much-requested live album is on the way for late 2003. measureXmeasure is also a strong advocate for music education in schools. Since 1999, the band has been developing and presenting its "Get Vocal!" program, which seeks to raise awareness and support for school music programs, while teaching young people to use their voices as a means of artistic and emotional expression. Via its performances and clinics for the Kansas Music Educators Association and the Kansas Choral Directors Association, mXm has had the privilege of delivering its message of perseverance, dedication, hard work and music appreciation to thousands of music students throughout the midwest and across the country. In 2000, measureXmeasure was appointed to the performing artist touring roster of the Kansas Arts Commission, and in 2002 was selected as a touring artist for the Heartland Arts Fund. The group was also awarded a showcase at the 2002 Performing Arts Exchange, in Atlanta, GA; has secured bookings in concert halls and music festivals well into 2003-04; and is planning tours to Canada, Europe, Central America and Asia. measureXmeasure is Jeff Smith, John Stutler, Jason George, David Stutler, and Cardell Edwards. measureXmeasure is available for radio, TV and phone/press interviews. A complete media packet (video demo; CD; bio; press; photos) is available upon request. In addition, visit the group's Web site: www.measurexmeasure.com. Press Reviews
"A high-energy mix of Take 6 and Boyz II Men that'll simply knock your socks off!!"(JazzBeat). "Mimics guitars and drums with startling accuracy!!"(The Pitch Weekly). "Totally AWESOME vocal percussion!!!"(Hot Lips Records). "Picks up where Take 6 left off!"(Kansas City New Times). "With golden voices and shiny charisma...these guys can really sing and they don't even require instruments to make music!"(The Mag). "Modern, professional, and inspirational!"(The Lawrence Journal-World). "A Cappella hip-hop with layered vocals and human beatbox percussion. Some electronic processing disguises the all-human aspect of this music, but the singers' vocal athletics and the exceptional, non-spittle drum sound they get carries them through any potentially commercial touches."(Listen.com) |
