Artist History
Corps of Discovery was founded by BZB lead guitarist Frank Milewski as an exploratory project.
Initially an offshoot of BZB, including bassist Christian Salcedo and drummer Pat Kelly, the Corps
started off recording some of Frank's songs that had been a part of the BZB repertoire for some time.
Frank, a longtime Deadhead who cites Jerry Garcia as his primary musical influence, got hooked on
the music of Bela Fleck and the Flecktones. As he studied Bela's jazz influence, he delved deeper and
deeper into the more traditional elements of jazz and bebop, and has immersed himself in the study of
jazz guitar, studying the styles and techniques of guitarists like Wes Montgomery, Tal Farlow, Larry Carlton,
and Jimmy Bruno.
Frank named his project Corps of Discovery after the Lewis & Clark expedition as an
expression of his desire to venture into uncharted musical territory.
