Artist History
Ma'China was formed in 1990 by Henriët van Rossum and René Duurkoop as a two-person tape recording project. When the need to perfom live emerged Raymond van Melzen joined as a lead singer. Drums were played by a TR-909. After a concert in Rotterdam drummer Eric Burger joined the band, but three years later, in 1993, he formed his own band and Ma'China borrowed the Local Weirdos drummer Arjen van der Ree. Arjen decided to stay with Ma'China.
After a few years of trying to combine being a keyboard player and the bands' frontperson, Raymond decided to make up his mind, dive into the keys and sampling textures and leave the singing to someone else. This someone turned out to be Vincent van Rossum who had formerly played with The Local Weirdos
Recently Ma'China has acquired a Sander van Yperen as the bands' trumpetplayer (not yet on the band photograph). This gives the band the abillity to compose and arrange very differently, more subtle and melodic. Thus Ma'China is moving to a completely new sound!
