Artist History
Katherine Speed formed in September 1999 when vocalist Matt McKee responded to a flyer posted by drummer Jordan Selman. Jordan had played with guitarist Christian Williams and bassist Stratton Glaze for just over a year and the guys were ready to take on a new project.
Throughout the next few months the band practiced religously and were eager to play some live shows. Katherine Speed developed a unique style drawing from influences such as Hum, Foo Fighters, and Poor Old Lu. A number of shows and dedication during the year to follow
won the band a strong, charismatic fan base. Justin Barfield signed on as second guitarist in November of 2000 on the wake of the completion of the band's first EP: At Night the Stars Collide. The disc, containing 8 tracks, was released April 2001 and continues to
broaden the bands opportunities and listening audience. Katherine Speed will continue their prolific trend of writing inspired lyrics with a new indie rock sound in the years to come. |

Press Reviews
"Katherine Speed is a band with a lot to say, and it says it very well on its debut disc, "At Night the Stars Collide." A self-described five-piece band "that takes modern rock and mixes it with extra emotion and melody," Katherine Speed hangs its sound on the mutable, passionate vocals of singer Matt McKee. The band has a keen awareness of dynamics and arrangement - sound builds and subsides with assurance, and McKee's voice is never overwhelmed by the guitars of Christian Williams and Justin Barfield. Jordan Selman on drums and Stratton Glaze on bass complete the tight-knit lineup. "At Night the Stars Collide" is the perfect showcase for Katherine Speed's brand of inspired indie rock. The title track has a magnetic, sexy aura and plenty of propulsive power, and the disc's last track, "Fly to Sydney," is a perfect contrast with its hushed, aching beauty."
