    Artist History
It all started back in February of 1996 when bassist Doug Clapp, drummer Mark Dugal and singer Bryon Clapp played together for the very first time in the basement of a friend’s house. By the time May rolled around, an original hard rock band had been strategically planned out and conceived. Consisting of Doug, Mark and Bryon, the quest began for two guitar players; lead and rhythm. Settling on one of Mark’s boyhood friends for rhythm, the band auditioned lead guitarist after lead guitarist, finally concluding on someone to make it all work. Next, a name was in order. After contemplating names, they decided on Emptyhead, taken from a drawing that Doug had created which featured a head with an “MT” appearing on the forehead and which portrayed a state of open-mindedness. Gigging regularly and already on their second rhythm guitarist, the band decided to replace both guitar players in the summer of ’97 due to a lack of communication between the two. In September, lead guitarist Keith Martin became a permanent fixture, but the search for a rhythm guitarist wouldn’t be so effortless. Several rhythm guitarists and years later, the band finally inducted Romain Charette in May of 2002. Although the band is based out of Portland, ME and performs all over New England, all of its members are originally from the St. John Valley area, a quiet and tranquil kingdom of Northern Maine. Emptyhead has had a substantial amount of milestones throughout their existence. Original CDs such as their 5-song demo Spilt, the more “complete” full-length debut Who’s Talking… …Who’s Listening and the acoustic EP A Single Thread have been exceptionally received and have had great success, with WT… …WL selling over 3000 copies and winning Klarity Multimedia’s Millennium Contest. The band’s newsletter, Mind Of A Child, was introduced in July of 1997 and continues to this day, while their website, www.emptyheadmusic.com, introduced in January of 2000, has been an invaluable source for news, dates and general information, not to mention the ever-popular Emptyhead Forum. The band has performed or appeared live and has received airplay on many radio stations throughout Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts. Radio stations such as WAAF, MassCommRadio.com, WHEB, WCYY, WFNX, WMPG, WTOS, WKIT, WMDI, WQHR, WUPI and WERU have given their support to local original music, including Emptyhead’s. The band has also recorded a live performance and interview at Mojo Music Studio in Franconia, NH to be broadcast on countless radio stations throughout the Northeast and Midwest. Original songs such as “Spin” and “Buy Myself” have been selected for compilation CDs such as House of Jordan Entertainment’s Around the World in 60 Minutes and Face Magazine’s Eclectic Medley, Vol. 1, while “Heart On A Sleeve” was chosen as Track of the Day on Garageband.com’s Alternative Front Page in late 2001. And let’s not forget live shows, the heart that pumps the blood through Emptyhead’s veins. Shows such as the annual Locobazooka festival in Worcester, MA, The Hard Rock Caf in Boston, MA, the live acoustic performance on WAAF’s Bay State Rock, the annual Acadia Festival in Northern Maine, the Wattstock Festival in Castle Hill, ME, the benefit shows for the Old Orchard Beach Fire Department, the colleges, including USM, UMPI and UMFK, and the countless venues throughout New England. Emptyhead has also received a pleasant amount of favorable press. Publications such as SoundCheck, Face, The Bangor Daily News, The Saint John Valley Times, Over-Easy, The Fort Fairfield Review and The Alternative Source have all given Emptyhead wonderful CD and live performance reviews. With musical influences ranging from Alice In Chains, Tool, Guns N’ Roses, Stone Temple Pilots and Metallica to Pearl Jam, Jimi Hendrix, Peter Gabriel, Kiss and Led Zeppelin, each member brings something very important and special to the final mix, thus creating the unique sounds which Emptyhead delivers. No one member is more important than another and each member follows the scripture of "Your lack of faith can't kill it..." (Emptyhead’s "Cellarfull.") To sum it all up, just think of Emptyhead as sensitive yet aggressive... truthful and heartfelt... overflowing with passion and soul... undeniable sincerity…

I was only able to make Emptyhead’s set and I’ve got this to say about that… four words: this band kicks ass! I’ve heard the bands first CD Who’s Talking… Who’s Listening…- heavy rock n’ roll with a brain the subtle influences of such bands as Rage Against The Machine, Tool, Stone Temple Pilots or Fuel sporadically drift through the mix, Emptyhead writes stuff which unequivocally stands out on its own merits-solid, well structured, interesting, totally original. Should Emptyhead continue to channel efforts into creating lots more music of this same caliber, they could easily find themselves being the next band from Maine to achieve major national attention. Here’s to hopin’, guys…
