    Artist History
"psylocibin ponies" - the story behind the idea men. the human being known as j1 was born on the first day of april in the european calendar year nineteen-hundred and eighty, as a cruel joke to himself. he was born in tampa florida, in the country known as the united states of america. the united states were then aged a mere two-hundred and four years old. in his youth, j1 had thoughts that were simple enough. however, by middle to late youth, he was forming some opinions that were not looked upon highly by the world. j1 had, and continues to have, very strong feelings about what he considers extremely simple concepts. due to the fact that no one would listen to his concepts or take them seriously besides a small group of friends, the still-young j1 became rather upset - unhappy and restless. he wondered if other humans felt that way too. j1's constant creativity and his urges to make things were factors of his life that could not be controlled. when it came down to it, j1 was bothered by many things. one of these things was religion. he felt that a supreme being, or "god" would be, by definition, a tyrant, and besides - when most everyone else was worried about the meaning of life, j1 wanted to know what was next for the humanity. buddhism was quite barely the only religion that seemed to make even the smallest amount of sense. and as for all forms of human government - put simply, no man should rule over another. perhaps socialism would come closest to j1's ideal. or nihilism! as frustration often suggested. when it came to matters of capitalism and money, j1 wondered why people were so obsessed with things, and hating each other in order to have more, better things. he wondered how many people really thought about the future of mankind every day instead of worrying about their own personal happiness. for, as the wise know, happiness constantly comes and goes for everyone. there was so much cruelty in the world. so little care for the earth's environment or other aspects of this amazing planet everyone co-exists upon. in addition, is a "survival of the fittest" ethic truly the method in which all human life should be conducted? can't our minds go beyond this? this question would be answered soon enough. upon commencement of adulthood, j1 ran across his fair share of crazy chemicals. first, simple chemicals and then stronger, much more revealing ones. there had always been chemicals within poor j1's head, but he couldn't control these. however, the new foreign chemicals opened doors that j1 had never seen. he began to read a lot of philosophy. here, j1 discovered that there were several earthly scientists who believed humans are simply creatures which occurred when early primates (apes) ingested certain naturally-occurring chemicals, thereby allowing their minds to be capable of conscious thought. this concept made sense to our hero. he had always thought of people as merely intelligent animals - destined to live their short lives to the fullest and then to decompose, giving their chemicals back to the earth. fascinated by this idea but frustrated with modern man, the musical/performance art group called the idea men was formed by j1 in the year 2000. the group came together in full when he became more restless and took on the occasional help of his good friend m1, relative a1 and then-romantic-interest guest mx. a slew of expressive songs had come to him, all of them intricate musical vehicles that would deliver his messages to the public. first, j1 recorded an early set of demos to test the waters, which he called the reasons, greetings sessions (a 4-song ep). this work was never released but one song is available linked from the group's website. after those preliminary musical prototypes, j1 felt it was then time to take the newly-formed idea men went out on the road in order to introduce their new brand of music to the people. while traveling, the group ingested the fateful chemicals that would take them beyond their current human state and to the next step in the evolutionary process. (as a quick side note - throughout j1's life, he had discovered many loves and losses. he thought maybe he had found a decent partner in the person referred to here as mx, but she was merely a mediocre substitute for whom he settled.) so now, at the end of this first era of the idea men, let the record show that j1 has found sweet j2, who seems to be his life-companion and perfect mate! very exciting for j1, the seeker. back to our story. upon returning from the road, the now-legendary group known as the idea men had a message to give to the rest of humanity. - take this chemical, while thinking a certain way, and let it make you become a better life-form. basically, you must evolve! so every man, woman and child eventually did just that. the band went into the studio to document this cultural phenomenon. what has just been explained is the story behind the idea men's first album, the ep 8 concept vehicles. a note from the band : this album is merely a journal of sorts of the group's journey and the great awakening that happened while in an altered reality. this will soon actually happen to the entire human race. the next record in line is entitled atmosphereless, a work that will attempt to express some of the ways everyone will feel after this great change. yes, the rest is up to you. the idea men are simply entities who guide a certain path. we have taken the step beyond. criticize yourself. learn to take everything in and process each word. here is how the ratio works. we, the artists, are: 1. creators of a message. 2. messengers and soothsayers. 3. simple. 4. enlightened. you, the listener, are: 1. free beings. 2. thinkers. 3. recievers of information. 4. concept artists. we are already the same, the creator and the listener, in wanting to become something more than what we are. if not totally alike in our ability to coexist in complete harmony, we will soon become one. this change has already begun. you won't feel anything, and you will appear the same externally, but you will live differently once you make the great realization.
