Artist History
Some Died Young originated in September of 2000. One of the original aspirations of the band was to explore new musical directions by blending a variety of styles that had been acquired through their diverse backgrounds. Traces of trance, ambient, lounge, bossa nova and alternative rock can all be heard throughout their setlist.
Ed and Wagner moved to Canada from Brazil, leaving behind their locally-established band called Speed Whale. After a while, they decided it was time to pick up where they left off and the concept for SDY was born. Some of the original Speed Whale songs have been reworked by SDY and are part of the band’s repertory. If you listen carefully, you can detect a slight Brazilian flavour in a few SDY songs. Rob definitely brings a different influence into the mix. Fresh from stints in Toronto’s stoner-rock band Macumba and garage-hardcore band Tingler, Rob brings a heavier edge to the sound. Jenn joined the band in January. She comes from the Minneapolis music scene and was in an alternative band called Spoonbender as well as an art-rock band called Goodbye Blue Mondays.
Some Died Young loves the energy of playing a live show. We’re always looking for good venues and other good bands to play with so give us a call!
