Artist description
Rodeo soul was formed back in 1999 by singer guitarist Josh Wiese and lead guitarist Mike Mcinerney. The goal was to start a band that mixed both the earnest heartfelt songwriting of midwest heroes Uncle Tupelo with the drunken sloppieness of TheReplaceme nts. After securing a bassist and drummer the quartet played their first show in April of 2000, opening for Say Zuzu. The first batch of shows showcased a band who were usually together in song but all over the stage with guitars swinging in one directi o n or another. Several opening slots for prominent Altcountry bands followed. Blue Mountain, The Backsliders, Alejandro Escovedo, Split Lip Rayfield, Johnny Dowd, Neko Case, Richard Buckner and the annual Bottlerockets Xmas show were just a few. Stoneback. The band was also nominated for a Slammie-St.louis area music award- in the best Roots Rock category April 2001. l |

Press Reviews
" Rodeo Souls?s songs (mostly originals composed by Wiese) are similar to that of predecessors Uncle Tupelo and currentstatemates the Bottlerockets (for whom Rodeo Soul openedlast fall at Blueberry Hill) in that they reflect workaday weeks,hard-play weeke nds, tough-luck jobs, and life in the Bible Beltas we know it. "Joe Swank-Carbondale Nightlife 2001 " Rodeo Soul have some good material and they?re puttingtogether a sound that falls somewhere between Son Volt, theRolling Stones, and the Replacements, w h ich aint a bad place tofall.
