Im talking about one of the Phoenix area's most exciting local acts - a group that urges you - that flat out insists you make your nightlife a shade more exciting than wall carpet or a box of hair. The question that you should be asking yourself as you scroll these pages and pray for a life is: Why is it that Im not one of the howling masses that knows about these boys, this band, this GOODER? This rag-tag trio has been rousing and carousing with the Tempe crowd for the last couple of years and is heading out west to spread the GOODER vibe all up and down the countryside. I tell you this now only out of the goodness of my heart, so that you can stand up in the Virgin Megastore nearest you and say that you knew them when. You can say that you knew Brad when he willfully stood from behind his drums and belted Whitney Houston to a packed Martini Ranch. Proudly proclaim that you were at the fateful Green Room show when Scott held his A note long enough to lose feeling in his fingers and let gravity carry him off the stage. Argue the details concerning the Chasers show when Chris went for a charming cross of lofting his bass guitar skyward and auditioning for the Full Monty. Smile and think back to when GOODER opened for Sum41 and then had the boys over for milk and cookies. With a new album in the works and a year full of concert dates, GOODER is ready for the latecomers to apologize quietly, hand over their Jell-O salads and join the party. Shake hands with the regulars, nod knowingly and order a round for the house. Watch as these boys mix gripping drum solos with BackStreet and Beasty Boys alike into the ever unpretentious Monkey Sex. Bounce and scream along with the simple catch phrase of the seemingly unpublishable Fudge. Marvel at the lyrical wizardry and intricate guitar solos of Never Been Cool. Only in the ever fickle music biz could ASU students turned school teachers and gymnastic coaches come together to make something so sweet. In this same fabulous business a degree in education could make you millions in a record deal - a job as Sparky the mascot could get you a cameo appearance on MTV. (Thats right, GOODER comes fully equipped with one of these former technicolor mimes we scream wildly for at sporting events.) Following a local band around for a couple years and being able to type could just possibly land you a job writing freelance press releases for... wait, nevermind. GOODER is rock and roll at its finest, its purest, its loudest. Take a little of that sugar and cross it with funky backbeats so tight and spine-tingling youll want to seek medical attention. And theyre in it for you, baby! So fear not my playful little vixens and flyboys, there is still time to stand up and be counted. You too can start riding on the backside of the GOODER train.
