    Press Reviews
Review from DemonicHorde December 2002: FROZEN CRIES (Nor) "Echoes of Solitude" Demo 2002 (self-release) The band started in 99 under the name of Mordor, & progressively extended from a duo in 2000 to a 3 members formula in 2002. Mactabilis, founder of Frozen Cries, already released the first 'Glacialis Infinitas' reheasal Demo in 2001, then 'Ancient - Demo 2001', re-released with bonus tracks. 'Echoes of Solitude' is out since summer 2002, and presents 3 tracks, with nocturnal intro and outro. They play here a raw & bare Black Metal, an amazing style, mixing almost rock'n roll tone to more heavy even metal compositions. A relatively moderated tempo dominates their first track, and they shape darker and rawer sounds in their second 'Evig er Styrken fra Fullmånens Lys', a faster Black Metal, with some breaks, saturated guitars back, screamed and sustained vocals, that sound a bit more distant on the fastest parts.' Also more nervous tones, a simple drumming and a more distinct guitar sound characterize their 'All I ever wished' track. The production and technical details are not here the point, as it is an official Demo, aimed to present an UG band. The release is a bit thin, but more energy and bestiality to the compositions would add for sure depth to the atmospheres. A however surprising listening & an original musical style, support them on their official site: http://www.frozencries.com - Blackness Reviews from the Norwegian Scream Magazine #69 September 2002: "Echoes of Solitude" is the name of the Frozen Cries demo, which includes three songs and an intro and outro. I like what I'm hearing on this demo. The sound is razor-sharp and the songs is kind of rough. The vocals are very raw and the speed, tempo changes and the riff's in the songs is in a kind of way that you will not fall asleep to what Frozen Cries are doing... Their style is old school black metal, but the songs is not that unidirect as many of the others are. I'm tempted to spray the tag black rock'n'roll metal in the white corpsepaint to these guys. Not to offend them in any way, but just to point that I like the raw, brutal and catchy expression in their music. - A. J. Blisten "Hmm...not exactly my cup of tea this... Frozen Cries plays a raw and energetic black metal with full speed and some effective tempo changes. "Evig er styrken fra Fullmånens lys" is pure 'speedshow', but "All I ever wished" has a remarkable melodic guitar. The quality is average for the style in my opinion, and the following call from the drummer does it: "Lick mother Mary's cunt and rape christians forever". Yeah yeah, chill out with a ice-cream instead." - Leif Kringen Reviews from the Finnish Imperiumi August 19th, 2002: Echoes of Solitude (CD-R) * * * * (4 of 5) "If there´s anything in Norway that never ends, it must be black metal. One can think anything of the quality of Norwegian black metal but it comes without saying that its influence to other black metal bands has been enormous. It seems that it has been the same for Frozen Cries that spells out quite a list of bands in the booklet of their CD-R –demo. No biography was attached so I won´t even begin to guess how many releases they have made. The demo begins with a crappy sounding “winds howling†–intro and after that we get mid-tempo and raw black metal. The clearest influences have been at least Darkthrone and Gorgoroth what you can hear from the music of Frozen Cries. In addition to the slow tempo in the beginning the band also offers faster fuzz and overall the demo songs are quite ordinary Norwegian style, though with a bit more raw and primitive touch to it. Some riffs of Frozen Cries seem to have some heavy metal influence as well so we can say the band has some of their own face as well. The vocals are harsh and deadly and honestly said truly good in all their unmusical appearance. The overall sound is crude and unfinished. The drums sound fittingly right in their dull and clumsy mixing and the guitars are raw, rasping and dirty – all in all perfect to this kind of black metal. I believe that those who´ve listened to Gorgoroth know what I mean. Demo ends with an outro consisting of rain, church bells and a “dreamy†guitar, guaranteeing a soft landing from the battering black metal. This has potential to be released as it is though the songs could have more hooks and catchy riffs, or on the other hand there could be something uttery evil and ugly that would make it one degree harder and more blasphemous. Good as it is." – JK (Thanks to Skaldi Shatraug for transelation.)
