Artist description All our songs are based on rock, but are often mixed with another style (blues, pop, reggae, punk,...). I guess we can say that we play guillotined rock.

Artist History Today they re The Guillotines, a rock band consisting of M-Rik and Nico, song writers and composers, where M-Rik is guitarist and lead singer, and Nico is the lead guitarist who does the back up vocals with Steph’, the English key-boardess. And of course there’s Ben’, the drummer. But ever wondered how they got together? Here’s their remarkable bio : Towards the end of 1999, Nico and M-Rik (who back then for the time being became bassist, ‘cause there where none of them in the band) joined a band which then was known as “The DragonZ” who formed one year before by chance. At that time, the Danish lead singer was Marlina, who sung like a donkey, joined by Veronica, a German, who did the back up vocals. There also was Claudia, a German guitarist, and Steph’, who back then already played piano. The person who’d organised everything was Photis(he formed bands in our school), and the person who decided what way things were to be done was Marlina. Everybody disliked her from the very beginning, most of all because of her voice and character and her tastes...a real psycho! The band, which didn’t have a name anymore because they couldn’t agree on one, used to rehearse every Friday in school. They played famous songs by Supertramp (the Logical song), Oasis(Wonderwall), the Cranberries (Zombie) and Bob Dylan (Knocking on heaven’s door). Not a great success, clearly, maybe because everyone just played along, so no arguments would start. Only Marlina was motivated to sing along to every song. By the beginning of 2000, Veronica quit the band, because she couldn’t take it anymore. It was discussed between the rest of the band, excluding the psycho, that something had to be done about Marlina. The most keen on doing this were M-Rik and Steph’, so they tried various things without any success, until Marlina discovered the truth, that everybody hated her, so that by the middle of the year 2000 the band had made a complete revolution. But the band failed in making Marlina quit. So the rest of the band quit and left Marlina doing a band alone. Meanwhile all this happened, outside school, Nico and M-Rik where rehearsing together and composing, without the rest of the band. M-Rik, (who decided to quit bass to return to his instrument, the guitar), Nico and Steph’ stuck together and formed their own band, (unfortunately Claudia had to move to England). Marlina on her side also tried to form her band, and she succeeded in doing so towards the end of 2000 (Photis arranged everything for her once more…), only Satan knows how she manages to keep it together... While Nico and M-Rik where playing and composing together, they came up with “Time Remaining”. Nico and Steph met up at M-Rik s place where they d rehearse in the garage, play billiards, smoke and drink beer. By that time, Nico had left school and is now studying, while M-Rik and Steph’ both attend the same school. Later on, the songs “Land is sinking” with thoughtful lyrics and “Illegal Gambling” were composed. Thanx to Nico, who found Ben’, who also studies, the band now has a drummer. The band was almost complete now; apart from the bassist, but still didn’t have a name... M-Rik however managed to find one, in a pretty weird way. While the band was simply foolin’ around, M-Rik decided to pretend his guitar was a drum stick and was hitting on the cymbal...eventually, it fell, and to everyone’s surprise, cut the cable of one of the jack’s, just like a guillotine cuts off heads... A Year after The Guillotines where playing together, M-Rik started apart from his band, a duo with a girl named Vanessa from his school. In October 2001, Nico and M-Rik went in a coffee where musicians hang around, and met Nabil. He played guitar. But they were searching for a bassist. Things turn to be that Nabil would play bass guitar in The Guillotines. Today The Guillotines are recording by themselves their first album, “Never Under The Blade.
