Artist description
Are you ready for the reckoning day?
Not that you could do much to prepare anyway. When Reckon With One either touches down in your CD player, or at a venue near you, there is nothing you can do to avoid becoming a casualty of their metallic wrath, as they lay waste to every listener with their forceful and powerful sorties of aggression.
Natives of Brampton, Ontario, Canada, the three members of Reckon With One can be likened to the foot soldiers of the Apocalypse. They lull the listener in with well written guitar melodies and progressive arrangements, then show their darkside with their pummeling percussive force, and intense vocals that range from harmonious hymns to gruff growls that sound like they emanate from another dimension.
There is no accurate way to describe the musical massacre that Reckon With One executes with a reckless abandon. Power and progressive metal are definitely a staple part of the R.W.O. sound, but the aggressive level at which they are played often brings old school thrash to mind. Then you can add the lyrics to the mix, and Reckon With One will show you another region of their genius, as high emotional pain, societies ills, and the state of the world are oft-covered topics that belie both the beauty and the brutality of the music.
You can almost think of Reckon With One as an unstoppable pestilence of infectiously intense music. What you now hold in your hands is the bands second release, The Purpose Of Existence, the highly energetic and destructive follow-up to 1999's Shock To The System. As you can see, these three crazy Canucks are no stranger to the studio.
As a matter of fact, it was their first release, STTS, that launched the band on their path of destruction. It was embraced by Canadian tomes Unrestrained!, Rip N' Tear and Brave Words & Bloody Knuckles, while being highly accepted by overseas grimoires such as Metal Hammer (Hungary), and Alters of Metal (Greece). In fact, their campaign of terror has also been followed by such online giants as Evil Surfer Web Magazine (Italy), and Whats Metal Radio and Webzine (Germany), as well as on radio at Dark Wave Radio (France) and Infernal Waves (France).
Armed with the knowledge that the masses craved heavy metal enlightenment, R.W.O. has embarked to indoctrinate the public, with two cross-Canada tours, the first of which culminated into their highly successful live album, Live Identity Crisis, from a blistering set performed in Winnipeg, Manitoba in the summer of '99. Their second trek just finished this past spring, as R.W.O. laid waste and obliterated thousands from as far off as New Brunswick and Thunder Bay, to metropolis's such as Toronto and Montreal.
The members of R.W.O. are no slouches when it comes to playing and composing. As a matter of fact, guitarist Mark Anthony has taken some lessons from King Diamond and Eidolon finger wizard Glen Drover. The duo of Anthony and Drover are also collaborating on material, which may yet see the light of day in the form of music on upcoming releases.
All of these experiences have given Reckon With One the ammunition needed to embark upon the battle that is The Purpose Of Existence. "Believe In Silence" embarks down a darker path, as the guitars display an eerie drone, and the vocals propel the track forth, utilizing a guttural growl that would terrify small animals and children. Power and aggression is displayed on "Paradise Lies," melded with what could adequately call soul. The song starts as intense overture, and then turns to harmony and melody for a truly emotional chorus that displays the bands personal, internal aspects. And perhaps, on of the band's crowning achievements is "Victim," which seems to draw upon all the elements that create R.W.O., and solidify as one large hulking colossus. At points, the vocals sound reminiscent of Pantera, while the percussion definitely drives the song and reminds one of the chatter of machinegun fire. Not to be outdone is the guitar work, which comes off as smooth as a sharp knife arcing its way across a jugular - and just as deadly.
Music is one of the most, if not the most, powerful mediums in the universe, and Reckon With One prove it with The Purpose Of Existence.
So once again, are you ready for your reckoning day?
