    Artist description
Had enough wailin' guitar distortion and boring "mojos" that don't work anymore? Tired of hearing the same old, same old? Then it is time to check out the music of The Jumpstreet88s.From their eclectic collection of old-time Blues, authentic Boogie-Woogie, and early R&B tunes, you may hear some music totally unfamiliar to your ears, but you can bet that the true aficionado knows where it came from and knows that this band is demonstrating loyalty to its roots. Anchoring the group are Bob Wilder, perhaps better known simply as "Piano Bob", and Stan "Deadend" Street.Piano Bob is the piano player who was once teamed with Ken "Snowman" Minahan, a collaboration that earned the duo the prestigious B. B. King "Lucille" Award at the 1992 W. C. Handy Awards in Memphis for Best Unsigned Band. Bob is self-taught and learned his licks by listening to old recordings by greats like Amos Milburn, Fats Domino, and Professor Longhair. His authentic style was shaped by these masters, but the pupil has gone on to establish his own individuality while remaining true to the music's roots. While his passion for music dates to an early age when he was growing up in Miami, Florida, he began and pursued a business career for several years, collecting recordings and gradually realizing in the early '80's that music was his true life's work. By the end of the decade, he had become a full-time musician.Stan Street divides his time between harmonica and tenor sax, and also handles the vocals for the group. In addition to his musical duties, Stan might also be called the art director for the group, and has been known to add a mixed media collection to the stage to enhance the old-time feeling and atmosphere, as he feels it's hard to really get into the mood in a so-called "fern bar". Stan is also a "late bloomer", in that foregoing both art and music, he spent several years in the landscape business in his hometown of Rochester, New York, where his father and uncle were percussionists with the Rochester Philharmonic. After moving to south Florida, he eventually tired of cultivation shrubbery and turned his focus to music. His love of Barrelhouse style of piano led to his collaboration with Piano Bob, and thus the Jumpstreet88s came into being.Since the band's inception, they've played in all the major Blues venues in south Florida, the Keys, and other parts of the state. The highlights of their travels are probably best epitomized by a couple of trips to play New Orleans and the Mississippi Delta, certainly a Mecca for their styles of music.
