Artist History
Motion Sickness began in the late year of 2000 and early January in 2001. There is absolutely nothing to do in Whitby, Ontario and there was something needed to be done. Dylan always wanted to be in a band. He is greatly inspired by Dexter Holland of the Offspring and has always wanted to be just like him. Having no clue what to do with his life and not giving a shit about life in general, he decided to get a guitar and try to play. He worked hard mostly learning from Offspring songs and eventually developed to play his axe.
Elvik and Dylan decided to start a band because Elvik thought it was a rad idea at the time and Dylan always wanted to be in a band. So we jammed every so often. We had no idea what to play, we had no bass, and we couldn't play together but we still had fun. Time went by and the news about our band got out.
Peter has been a good friend to Elvik and Dylan for a long time. Peter has also been playing guitar for a long time and is skilled at his shit. We needed a lead guitarist and Peter asked to join our band. We got him in our band and were happy that we were somehow getting somewhere.
Although, one fact remained. We had no bass player. It was extremely difficult to find a bass player that was a friend of the band or was not involved in a band already. Matt moved from Britain to Whitby in late 2000 and we became friends with him. After bugging Matt over and over again to get a bass, he finally decided to get one. He had no idea how to play and what equipment to get but we didn't care. We finally got a fuckin' bass player! Matt learn quickly how to play bass. He worked hard everyday and surprised us all that he could play...especially with such a crappy amp.
By mid January, the band was fully assembled. Now all we needed was a name. We thought of a billion names like Lunch Time, Sagging Depression, Cheese Market, Side Effects, Xtreme Radish, Choice Kids, ect. The list went on. All the names were good but only one name stuck in our minds. Motion Sickness. That was the only name that we all liked. Elvik was the one who thought of the band's name.
During late January and early Feburary, we started to write material. We started working on a song hard but having fun of course mostly.
In late April, we were making excellent progress and still are. We are writing soo many songs, playing basement shows, covering awesome material, and just having a blast. It soo much of a kick to see everyone sing to the songs were singing. We appreciate everyone giving us a chance to shine cause we are still human. As time goes on, we get better and stronger.
During early May, we recieve news that we knew would happen. Some other band has the name Motion Sickness as well. They are from Timmins, Ontario. Kinda cool to know they live actually pretty damn close to us. Like maybe a couple hours drive. We hope the situation can be resolved quickly. Much respect to them as well.
We played our first gig at G Cues in Whitby on Thrusday, May 24, 01. We opened up for Approaching Grace. The whole evening went great! We played Our Song, then May 16 from Lagwagon, and finishing off with Chubby Chicken. We made mp3z from the show and are available at garageband.com as we speak. The first of many shows to come of Motion Sickness.
...There will be more info added to the bio as our band grows. We are taking punk rock to a new level, especially in Canada. Support Canadian punk. Motion Sickness Forever!!! |
