    Artist History
Somewhere in western MA: We formed Last In First Out as an original band in June of 2000, although the four of us had been playing shows together as a Nirvana-Radiohead-Faith No More-Deftones cover band for about a year preceding that. We were called Ruptured Bowel. We smashed our instruments and thought we were sooooo punk-effin-rock. Moving on, after about six months of playing mostly DIY shows and small clubs, our creative juices were deluging us and we though it would be a great idea to spend a disgusting amount of money on an album, even though we had been playing out long enough to develop little to zero of a fanbase. Produced by Adam Dutkiewitz (Killswitch Engage, Every Time I Die, Aftershock), and mastered by Jeff Lipton (Dropkick Murphys, Wilco), the result was a moody, raw, debut album lovingly titled Hardcore for Women. Blending elements of post-hardcore, emo, metal, blues, and even country, with stark, often bizarre, yet poignant, lyrics about date rape, poinsettias, oral sex, spousal abuse, hate crimes, self-castration, and yes, Fred Durst... Hardcore for Women recieved very favorable reception by critics, showgoers, and fans alike. It was around that time when we started to play dozens and dozens of shows with bands as diverse as Luxx, Hypnotic Kick, The Cappuccino Jellybeans, Lost Inside a Rubix Cube, and Red Mercury with mixed responses. More often than not, our live shows would erupt into total chaos with us bleeding or pushing each other around the stage or smashing instruments or breaking things... The kids that loved it ate it up avidly. The ones who didn't would clear out of the room faster than you could say "Kurt Russell". We were too heavy for the emo shows, and the kids would goggle at us like we were Napalm Death. Yet we were far too emo and wimpy at metal shows and would get boogers and beer bottles chucked at us. But just as we were gaining some great momentum and a growing fanbase, "personal differences" drove us apart. In October of 2001, less than a year since we had independently released Hardcore for Women, we hung up our gloves. During the downtime Gessay joined Lost Inside a Rubix Cube and Kozak joined a few different bands (Otolith, Brand Name TVs Told Me To, The Rain Design) and recorded several cds. But in June of 2002, that split had become a relieved hiatus - we GOT BACK TOGETHER!!!!!! WOOOO WOOOO WOOOOOO!!!!! Playing all over the entire New England region throughout the summer and fall, accumulating a small, but rabidly devoted, fanbase, we reached critical mass and decided that it was time to immerse ourselves in the studio environment once again and share with y'all a new vision. In April of 2003, we independently released the 7-track EP The Ashen Light. A much more somber and atmospheric album, The Ashen Light is full of absurd mood changes and obtuse arrangements. It's an album full of nihilism and hope, calm reflection and blind fury, fantasy and most of all... unflinching reality. A scream could herald joy, guitar feedback signals shame, and the moon is never what it seems. Consider it our gift to those schizophrenic individuals who have trouble maintaining a steady equilibrium, and have a tough time finding a rock album that caters to their continuously morphing disposition. Present Although LIFO's music could be considered alternative, noisy rock, it's members draw from influences as diverse as Hum, Skinny Puppy, Glassjaw, Tool, Tori Amos, Cave-In, Harry Nilsson, Deftones, Fugazi, The Police, Pink Floyd, Craig David, and Rush. Each member incorporates their influences into every song to create a unique and recognizable style of music. This all comes to a devastating head live, where emotion runs rampant and gives way to total cacaphony and euphporic insanity. Cocky huh? Well beneathe this artsy fartsy veneer lies 4 very normal young 'uns just as human as you reading this. They had zits when they were younger, they've all had to get uncomfortable physical exams, they all get sick and violently vomit all over the place, they all fart....loudly, they've all hurt others and have been hurt themselves, they all have watched The Goonies (and love Chunk) during the wee hours of morning, they all have had their own share of personal tragedies and revelations, and most of all.... they all maintain a sense of humor, despite their wounding, often corrosive music. They'll be the first to tell you that their music represents not one but EVERY human emotion and has imperfections, as humans generally do. Currently they are supporting their new indie EP, The Ashen Light. Future The future lays primarily in the hands of the listnener. LIFO, like any other artistic form of release that can be whored and marketed (AKA a band), has a finite amount of control over their destiny. They can sit here all day and tell you about the ROCK STARS you'd love for them to become. Amidst radio spots and airplay, constant gigging all over the northeast, their debut '00 release Hardcore For Women and a brand-spanking new release, The Ashen Light EP, and many more lovely promotional strategies, all LIFO can do is hope with all of their hearts that folks will recieve and relate to the music as well as they've been as of late. The rest is up to you.

    Press Reviews
"I had the privilege of witnessing this young band live and purchased a cd a few evenings ago. Broad-based talent and many elements working on their side here with a draining, emotional live show (a la At the Drive In), the moodiness of The Cure and Hum, the dirty pop sensibility of Nirvana, the eclecticism of Faith No More, all the while rocking out in a post hardcore fashion not unlike that of Far and Recover. A refreshing new chapter added to New England's indie rock scene." - Noiseware Zine
