Artist History
You know Michael Jackson's song "Bille Jean?" You know how it starts with the drums, then the bass line comes in, and then those synthesizer chords start playing? That's me. It's odd to think of how many people have probably heard that recording. I started out in the industry by programming synthesizers--I did that for Stevie Wonder for two years while he was recording "The Secret Life of Plants" and "Hotter Than July." After awhile, I got more sessions where I was playing as well as programming. I played on albums by Paul McCartney, Diana Ross, and of course, the aforementioned Thriller album by Michael. I toured with the Jacksons in 1981, and managed to get myself a record deal after the tour was over. I spent the next ten years writing songs and producing other artists. It was a wild time. I had a huge hit with "Dancing in the Sheets" that I produced for Shalamar for the Footloose movie soundtrack. That tune and the soundtrack were nominated for three grammies. By this time, I was also recording instrumental music for a small label, Nouveau Records. They folded up, and the tunes on this site are the last ones I recorded in that style. Having been involved very heavily with synthesizers, computers, sequencers and all that, I completely changed directions and got into acoustic music. I put the synths away, and concentrated on acoustic piano, and straight-ahead jazz. Then I got infected by the Cuban music bug, and that led to my current band Mamborama (also on mp3.com). That's basically the story so far... more to come, I'm sure! |
