Artist History
While Mile lead singer Noel Hartough was filling out applications for medical
school and taking his MCATs, Promoter Jeff Hanson was promoting a
little-known hard-rock group called Creed. When they sold 10,000 copies with
no record label, Hanson phoned up Hartough and urged him into the studio.
With Creed producer John Kurzweig at the helm, Hartough recorded a demo song, which was promptly added to local radio stations and to the sixth compilation album by the farm-team label Aware (who lays claim to discovering bands like Matchbox 20, Better Than Ezra, and Train (to name a
few).
Hartough switched gears from future med student to future frontman of a
rock band. All he needed was the band. With the help of Kurzweg and Hanson,
Hartough hooked up with Stan Turner, a studio drummer. Soon after, through
mutual relations, Noel was introduced to Marlin Clark and Davy Mason,
formerly of Mighty Joe Plum. "We had heard Noel's demos, and were really
impressed, so as soon as we heard Noel was going to make music his career, we got in on it," says Clark. David Lareau, who started out as a good friend to Noel and guitar tech for Mile, joined the band when Miles producer, Malcolm Springer, asked him to play guitar on the album. It just felt so natural and right that nobody really had to say a word about me joining, do you know what I mean? said Lareau. Mile's sound is wrapped in lusciously layered guitar rounded out by a driving bass and rhythm section. Its music that can take you away to your own world and then bring you back again leaving you in a melodic state of ease.
They play to whomever will listen, and in doing so they caught the attention of Columbia at a New York City show in the spring of 1999."Driving Under Stars" was released in the summer of 2000 on Aware / C2 Records. Upon Release of the Album, Mile landed tours with Creed and 3 Doors Down. Sadly, upon the release of "Driving Under Stars" Sony announced the closure of C2 Records, home to such bands as MILE and SPLENDER. After working with Columbia over the winter of 2000/2001, Mile was finally able to free themselves of their contract with Columbia Records in order to have the artistic freedom and support that they so desired and needed.
Now finally free, Mile takes a brave step into the unknown and embraces their
most creative moments to date. Enjoy this journey that is Mile.

Press Reviews
"MILE - Driving Under Stars" (Aware/C2/Columbia)... MILE packs a lot of emotion into these 11 debut tracks. Consisting mostly of mainstream, catchy mid- tempo Pop-rock, Driving Under Stars delivers harmonious singing and delicate song writing (think Oasis touched with Travis and Radiohead), while it explores personal themes of self-realization and the search for meaning. Pretty heavy stuff for a bunch of pop songs, but Noel Hartough bravely confronts issues of religion ("Sunday Morning"), mistrust ("See Through"), and the saving grace of love ("Someone Had To Save Me"). He achieves powerfully moving results. The music taps into his Houston youth, showing subtle traces of the music he listened to, namely The Smiths and U2. "(In the Mood for) Johnny Cash" could easily be mistaken for a U2 number, with swirling guitars and plaintive singing that says more with feeling than it does with words. From the gentle joy of "Summer Day" to the stark intimacy of "She Moves Me," Driving Under Stars is a wistful collection of reflective songs, deeply meaningful and deeply resonant. This one is truly a treasure. contact - www.milemusic.com (Roxanne)
