Press Reviews
**HUNTER ROSE EP01 (from iii webzine)--------
This EP opens up with a catchy number called "Candy Hearts" and goes even further into that slightly hardcore influenced indie rock throughout the EP. This is power pop the way I like it. Super catchy, great breakdowns, and lyrics that are easy to sing along to. These guys are really, really good. The second track, "Hourglass," is probably my favorite. I love the part where the guitar continues with one note, as the bass and drums play a rhythmic pattern, which combined sound amazing. That might be my favorite part on the whole EP. All in all, this is a great sound...somewhere in between Braid, Foo Fighters, and Texas is the Reason. I really like it and I'm very satisfied, and looking for much more from this band. ------------------------
**HUNTER ROSE EP02 (from iii webzine)--------
Well, at first, I was a little disappointed. I still think that the new EP doesn't quite measure up to the "EP01," but nonetheless, there are some gems on here. Take the first song, "Summer Away." It's got a cool drum lick to start it, and ventures out into that Braid sounding indie rock with screaming deal. This EP also has Hunter Rose sounding more Braid-influenced than their previous effort. A little more indie rock, and less pop than "EP01." Actually, to tell you the truth, after I listened to it for a few times, it started to grow on me. The only song I really don't like is the last one. The vocals sound a little weird on it. It's alright, but harmonizations would have been really cool there. But other than that song, I ended up really liking "EP02" for the most part. Keep the rock up Hunter Rose. ----------------------------------------------------
**BILLY/HUNTER ROSE SPLIT 7" (godsend zine #2) -------------
this short 7-inch features two previously unknown talents-both that of Billy and Hunter Rose. Each with one half the record reserved for them. Two sides, two songs, one song each side-simple mathematics is all. At first, the record seemed pretty tame and both bands pretty similar. But as i spent more time with is each band's uniqueness and character began to shine through.
The simply titled, Billy's sleepy-eyed sound seemed to bring me back to my first show. When ever band seemed so new and exciting[the bad grammar is in the review!]. Raw guitars, and vocals more concerned with passion, rather than beauty. Billy also reminded me of another unknown artist, the Stopgap Measure.
Hunter Rose, again, starts off just pretty ordinary in standard emo vein. But then seems to explode into a more raw, more aggressive, solid rock. Intricate bass lines and powerful vocals make up the existence of 'static,' a song that definitely gets them a lot of mileage. Anyone looking for a bit more exciting emo would probably be down for this release. 7-inches are about as cheap as they come, and this one is well worth the money. A great introductionto two great bands.
