Artist History
Flow’s sound covers a vast array of musical genres, from rock to funk to hardcore to hip-hop, their unique style and marketable image allow them to shine above the rest. Their major musical influences include 311’s rock/rap combination, Red Hot Chili Pepper’s funk, Dave Matthew’s Band’s musicianship, and Weezer’s harmonies. Flow’s catchy riffs, and lyrics have you singing along to the songs the very first time they hit your ears. It all started in New Jersey, when front man Tim Barbour and lead guitar/keyboardist Scott Barone were in the 6th grade. They began performing in front of crowds and writing original music that people still remember to this day. It was incredible we weren’t all that great because we were so young, but everywhere we went people really seemed to like us. Tim reveals. In and out of bands through junior high and high school their musical talents and song writing strengthened. Tim has been playing guitar since he was 10 years old and began drumming a year later. Scott Barone has been playing piano since the age of 3 years old and the guitar since he was 12. In 1998, both Tim and Scott moved to Long Island to attend college at Hofstra University. It would be a twist of fate that led them to their bassist, Mark David, who was their roommate. With Mark’s smooth classic rock bass lines, he was able to add a new dimension to the band. In 1999, Flow was formed. Finding their drummer, George, was a long and grueling search. We were going insane trying to find a drummer. There had to be at least 10 to 15 drummers that we went though in a year and a half. Not to mention the other 50 we tried out. Scott jokes. Scott introduced the band to George in the summer of 2001. With his strong beats, smooth style and great fills Flow was complete. Flow’s style has something different than your average band. Their unique sound has them appealing to audiences from students in junior high to 50-year-old adults to everyone in between. After listening to their CD or seeing them live in concert, just hearing the way the music flows explains their name: Flow. |
