Artist History
Brothers Pete and Gareth Davies formed the band in 1994. Included in the line up were drummer Cristan Edmonds and hardcore vocalist Dave Bell. Mulch started off as a combination of hardcore and death metal and played a handful of gigs in South Wales, including an open-air festival in Porth with a turnout of several hundred people , and a gig playing with Four Letter Word.
Following the departure of two of the original members, Dave and Edmonds in late '94, Mulch rehearsed with Pete Davies on vocals and tried out a couple of drummers, the most recent being Pete Aplin, joining in early 1997. Within the next couple of months the band gained the talent of bassist Andi Morris and extreme vocalist Lee Harris . With this new line up Mulch began to write new powerful material, which has shaped the band to how they are today.
In the following year the band set out to play a series of gigs all over South Wales (but mainly Newport) with the new line up, including support acts for Desecration, Thus Defiled and Confusion Corporation on the Welsh shows of their UK tour and becoming finalists in a Welsh battle of the bands competition, held at Zanzibar in Newport.
In Mid 1998 Lee Harris amicably left the band to engross his own projects and passed the role of front man back to Pete Davies.
Mulch proceeded to make a name for themselves in South Wales and have helped revitalise the metal scene in Swansea. They have recently played many gigs in Swansea with good turnouts for every gig, including the university battle of the bands.
Mulch, at present, have two demo tapes recorded on a 4-track recorder, a self made CD of a combination of recorded and live tracks, and in late 1999 went into the studio for a week and recorded eight songs for their first full-length CD, which is out under their own record label, Ascendant Records.
The recording of this album was entirely funded by CD and ticket sales.
Recently, the band has been playing more and more gigs around the UK, their biggest yet when they opened for Morbid Angel and Desecration, and their songs have been receving more and more recognition with Thrashworx webzine giving Imprisoned the accolade of 'Song of the Week', and a few weeks later after giving the album 10/10, we were classed as band of the week. |
