    Artist History
In Vitro is an English band composed of Joe Ross (Guitarist and Lead Singer), Dan Butcher ( Lead Guitarist ), Pete Hoare ( Bass Guitarist ), Matt Chapman ( Keyboards ) and Ben Abbott ( Drummer ). With the exception of Ben They met each other through mutual friends in Worthing, West Sussex, on the South Coast of England, 15 miles from Brighton. They were 17 – 19 years of age when they formed their first band ‘Chalk Circle’ with drummer Neil North. It took a while for the band to find their own sound, but after much gigging experience in London and the South coast, and with their name changed to SEKA, Goldmine Music, a record label based in London, signed them up in 1997. With their future looking good the band recorded their first E.P., ‘Teletext’ in London at Unit 4 Studios in the March of that year. The CD was heralded to great acclaim by magazines and Radio Stations alike, with 47 of these stations putting the title track on their ‘A’ play list. However, Goldmine music went bust in the summer of 1997 and ended up stealing £5,000 of the bands finances which was meant to go towards the production of the bands merchandise. Not deterred by this set back the band went about promoting themselves. They recorded their second E.P. ‘In Gods image’ in Worthing, West Sussex. This CD Received rave reviews in National Magazines such as ‘Front’ magazine where it won demo of the month and the band were compared to the likes of ‘Radiohead’, ‘Bush’, and the ‘Smashing Pumpkins’. The CD also generated interest from ‘Hepburn’s’ Manager and his record label ‘No Toe Dog’ and it wasn’t long before the band were asked to go back into the studio to record more material. They recorded three tracks in London’s very prestigious Strongroom’s recording studio. However just after these recordings were finished Hepburn were beginning their short lived success in the pop world and ‘SEKA’ (as In Vitro were known then) were neglected on they wayside. The band refused to be cynical about their career of near misses and continued to gig their way back into London’s top venues. It was at one of these venues, MTV’s ‘Sound Republic’ in Leicester Square, where the band were noticed by the then newly founded record label ‘Burning Bush Records’. They were asked to record yet more of their latest material in London’s Stoneroom’s studio. The recordings were really beginning to take shape and they thought this was third time lucky, when suddenly without warning ‘Burning Bush Records’ pulled their investment in ‘SEKA’ due to developments in other areas in the company. This was a devastating blow for the five band members, and Neil North decided to call it a day leaving the band to try and live in Florida. The rest of the guys decided to take a break for a couple months to pursue other things, but their passion for music made these new careers unbearable, and the band reformed soon after. They took on the drumming skills of Ben Abbott, adopted Their current name, and started writing some of their best material yet. In Vitro played a blow away gig at ‘The Rox On The Prom’ festival in front of 3,000 people in August 2000 and suddenly that old desire for bigger and better things was rekindled. So far the career of In Vitro has had its ultimate highs and It’s devastating lows but the bands pure determination to get themselves and their music heard has guided them through any challenging times. They have recently recorded their new demo ‘Triple Drug Therapy’ and now the band that has come so close so many times to achieving their dreams, are sparking with the fiery intensity of a group who know that their best is yet to come.
