Artist description
Distinguishing features: left hand middle finger's lost.
Founder of a guitar trio "Begemot" (search: begemot).
"The Clash", “The Boomtown Rats” , “The Buzzcocks” and esp. “The Stranglers” were my favourite groups when I'd just begun to play in a band (I played drums and sung). My first band (after school) was called “Selferadication Dpt.”. I wanted to sing sharp social antisoviet punk-hits, I sympathized with political sights of early UK's punk-rockers (though I could hardly understand their lyrics). I read about them in our “red press» which held them up to shame. I wanted to be free with what I was saying but suddenly I found myself invited to the KGB office for explaining what I'd meant and soon after two days of 6-hours examination I was forced to sign a paper declaring that I would not be writing such songs anymore. I was an army refugee as "schizo". My 1st band had lasted for only one year;we made few home records and was refused to enter Rockclub founded by Komsomol-KGB to establish control over the youth in St.Petersbourg. The second “Begemot”'s album (live at studio 1997) was called ”Selferadication Dpt.» and contained some of my earliest songs. Soon I began a new search of musicians for a really “Hall Of Fame”-group which was expressed in some pop and funky projects. I still keep demo tapes of them. I began to learn the english when I was 24. Worked at The Kirov Opera for 10 years. Toured with them all across Europe, left once in Paris. Sung for a local covers group. France helped me to find my own way in songwriting, as I thought-then. Then I returned back to form “Begemot”. Fedia Lavrov ( “How to become a punkrocker” ) |

Artist History
I recorded my solo-demo myself, home,on an old fashionable ADAT at the end of XX circle. I used the possibly old instruments and less equipment:organ Vermona (70's East Germany), Musima-bass, Charvel-guitar (2-nd model) my teenage dream - Riga's drum set, Electronica mixer, homemade guitar amplifier and Boss 5-effects processor. When I needed a loop (La Victoria) I just cut and pasted the 6mm tape sample and then played after it. I wanted to find the sound of 60's, using everything I had in the house except PC, which I finally used for mastering. It was an experiment in fact, however I would be happy if I could meet somebody to tell me that I did not just waste my time! Believe me I had a lot of fun making the record! I hope you will enjoy listening to it. Thank you. Fedia Lavrov
