Press Reviews
Multi-instrumentalist JOE CRAIG comes out of Pennsylvania and he is the man behind the project JJC. He sent me a CD with 8 original tracks he recorded, and the idea of releasing this disc has been in Joe's mind since 1987! Now he has released the CD and I must say it doesn't sound bad at all. Only the drum machine is a pity and also the voice of Joe isn't that strong, but further, the songs are pretty good and the use of guitars and keyboards on each and every song is very well done. Joe's influences include DREAM THEATER, QUEENSRYCHE and ROBERT PALMER, and he mixes Pop, Rock and New Age music. In the end, JJC sounds like a typical 80s typed AOR band. Sometimes, the music reminds me of VISION 180, JOE ROBINSON, 8084 and those sort of acts.
Opener is the good midtempo AOR song "Heart shaped tears", not unlike JOE ROBINSON. Also next track "Dream in a nightmare world" is good quality midtempo AOR, a bit reminding me of ALDO NOVA this time. Then comes the semi AOR/Melodic rocker "You let my heart down", another good tune, somehow similar to MELODICA. The CD continues with the calmer acoustic ballad "Carolina sunrise". The following two songs are the good uptempo AOR rockers "It's not me" and "I wish I could love you again", both in the style of VISION 180 and HONEYMOON SUITE. The semi rocker "Time bomb" is one of the few songs that didn't do much for me.
Closing track "Michelle's song" however is one of the best JJC songs, because this is a fantastic AOR ballad like JOURNEY. Although this isn't as good as the usual FRONTIERS RECORDS releases or a band like VISION 180, I can still recommend it to fans of 80s AOR.
