Artist History
Larry Banks was born on October 3, 1936, to two musicaly talented parents in Brooklyn NYC. Ealy in life Larry started boxing and had become a decorated amature. During the 50's he enlisted in the U.S. Army and fought in the Korean War. After his tour of duty, Larry returned to Brooklyn, but instead of continuing his boxing career, he formed a group with his boyhood friends(The 4Fellows) and persued a career in music. The group recorded a number of records, most popular of which was "Soldier Boy", which he had written while in Korea with David "Sugar Lump" Jones. As the 60's came, the group had separated but Larry was making major moves. He recorded a song entitled "Go Now", sang by his first wife Bessy Banks, which exploded on the charts(especially in Europe). Go Now has since been recorded by The Moody Blues, Paul McCartney and Wings, Cher, and others. He has also helped mold the careers of many people such as Valerie Simpson(Ashord and Simpson), Sissy Houston(Whitney's mom), Dionne Warwick(sang background for him on a few songs), and he also produced and wrote for the group "The Hesitations" and also sold many songs to the famouse Bert Bakerack. Larry isn't with us anymore but his legacy lives on in his music and in mines 4 ever. |
