    Artist description
There is an unfinished basement somewhere within the most southern tip of Wisconsin. In that unfinished basement is a small room covered with scraps of carpet, chunks of foam, and a couple of abused cubicle walls. This is where five men known as notaword meet a couple times a week to extract some much needed rock from their lives. Starting the band with a strong work ethic and a love for music, notaword has been dishing out their own blend of honesty, melody, energy and emotion for almost three years. Gaining a reputation for an explosive live set and a couple of very well received releases, notaword's plans are simple: continue to play the music that comes straight from inside.Their current CDEP "Four From Fortieth", was completely recorded by the band in their practice spot on 40th Ave. in Kenosha Wisconsin. Then they brought it to Chuck Uchida at Attica Studios in Chicago for the mixdown. The result is four amazingly well produced songs that lay the ground work for their full-length coming this fall.

    Press Reviews
PILLOWFIGHT.COM - Roy C. Usery " It is unfortunate that we as humans weren't blessed with more - and better - memory. We rely on things like pneumonic devices, chunking of information (7 digit phone numbers) and constant reminders (Post-It notes) to keep track of things. We forget far more than we remember. Because of our inherent "lack of space" upstairs, we also overlook a great deal of the good stuff, often while remembering the mediocre. When a category in our space (or the lack thereof about which I'm speaking) becomes overcrowded, we grab the few that stick and keep moving. This is unfortunate for the great things that we leave behind in the process. Chicago's Notaword needn't be over-looked just because the boyrock category is currently very over-crowded. They do it as good or better than any of the others that we so often praise and to which we constantly refer (Get Up Kids, Hot Water Music, and the absolutely over-fucking-rated Promise Ring). On "You Can Only Grow So Much," Notaword puts the elements that count together for nine great songs straight. The delinquency of this review is only due to the fact that I've spent the last three months consistently listening to this CD (instead of sitting down to review it). I have nothing special to say about it except that it's that perfect blend of honesty, melody, energy and emotion that most of the aforementioned bands deliver, but Notaword delivers the recipe consistently. Song after song. For nine songs straight. So do whatever it is you have to do (pneumonic devices, Post-It notes, chunking, etc.), but please remember: Notaword is one of the best bands out there doing this right now. And "You Can Only Grow So Much" proves it. Nine times over."
