Press Reviews
from www.epinions.com (reviewer: emlin) Before even listening, I was already prepared to like the tunes of Marcus Mitchell when I saw the choice of cover art for his debut CD, "Forever Music". With a highlight from an R. Lafeyette illustration, Mitchell accurately conveys the smoothness of his music - a sweeping blend of shade and tone. The first cut, "Get Busy", kept me occupied with a bright, jazz sound accompanied by soft background vocals and I thoroughly enjoyed the scope of this instrumental collection. All of Mitchell's music is like listening to paintings; the colors are his instruments and the brush strokes are his rhythms, each a well-framed piece of art. "African Wings", my favorite cut off the album and one I listened to three additional times, is an eerily sensual song that bespeaks the mystery and intrigue of chance romantic encounters. With a smooth yet contagious backbeat, this tune paints a strong image in a listener's thoughts and I found more of the same as I continued through the CD. Marcus Mitchell's brand of music is a refreshing change from the heavy sounds of the nineties. The songs are unique and thoroughly Mitchell as he offers the listener a creamy blend of jazz and New Age. I highly recommend this debut collection for all lovers of soothing tones. "Forever Music" is not to be missed. .................................from Listen.com Review A mixture of New Age keyboards, throbbing contemporary R&B bass, and light jazz piano, with cocktail-influenced backing vocals and keyboard horns. One tune is a straight-ahead lounge bossa that would make Esquivel proud. ..............vikib@nts-online.net) Lubbock, TX - 7/9/99 Nice combination of electronic jazz and percussion. Fits seamlessly into the background. Only thing, it's over before you know it. Could listen for much longer. Give it a try. Very mellow for relaxing after a hard workday. |
