Artist History
Half Man started 13 years ago. The most qualified guess is that the firstgroping chords were taken sometime during the autumn, 1986. The bandmade some ten gigs during 1987 and 1988 and then quit. During this period,Half Man played some kind of mix between boogie-rock and psychedelicafrom the 70s. From old lousy live recordings of these gigs, however, one candetect the band's today characteristic sound. Between 1986 and 1988 theband consisted of Gunnar Andersson -vocals and guitar, Janne Bengtsson-lead guitar and vocals, Mats Nilsson -drums, and Patric Carlsson -bass. In 1990 Half Man started playing again, and has since then had the sameconstellation, i.e. Janne Bengtsson vocals, lead guitar, harmonica, Peter Liljaguitar, Roger Bengtsson drums and Patric Carlsson bass. The first few yearswith this new setting they played mainly blues covers, though slowly butsteadily the heavier songs of their own leaked into the repertory. Today HalfMan is characterized as a heavy and progressive rock band with its roots inthe blues. Long suggestive songs based on riffs are the hallmark. Janne'sstrong voice and psychedelic guitar technique creates a special sound whichmakes you think of the progressive music movement of the late 60s and early70s.After about a hundred arrangements at pubs and festivals, Half Man finallydecided to book a studio and record an LP/CD "The Complete Field GuideFor Cynics". |

Press Reviews
The atmosphere a la first Jethro Tull (from the "This Was" era, to make it clear) is evident in more than one passage. Face the splendid psych-trip of "Two Perverted Men In The Swamp" with your seat-belts fastened, or you could find yourselves orbiting around the Earth, forever... One of the albums of the year... a must have! Davidew, Vincebus EruptumDid I walked into a smoke filled basement somewhere circa 1972 here? Maybe not but sure has hell feels like it. I was shocked at just how good this sounded, think of a mix of Led Zeppelin and Free, and you start to get somewhere near the sound on this. Stoner rock? Psych rock? Hard rock? Blues rock?, I'm not about "bag it and tag it" that easy, there's something here for all rock music fans. Martyn Jones, Acid Attack MusicIn some episodes, as Two Drinks Of Wine or When The Train Comes Back, the band bring me down along the Mississippi, with this slow seductive blues, really warm and intense. The strangest things of the Half Man can be found in some things as Ain't Ya Coming Home or in the fantastic instrumental Two Perverted Men, in which you'll be lead in a trip that starts with the first Pink Floyd releases and arrive to the stoner planet, flying on thirty years of psychedelic and progressive rock, with the unique special touch of this northern bluesmen.
