Artist History
Relocating to Philadelphia in 1996 from South Florida with his band Brother Grimm, Michael Roi went from swamp town to big city. Soaking up his musical surroundings,Michael began collaborating with McGowan Southworth, Ron DiSilvestro and Nate Sabintino.
Forming a close bond they decided to start a band, calling themselves Roi after the groups founder and primary songwriter. By the end of 1997 in a production deal with Jim Salamone of Sigma Studios, their first e.p. was completed. The next two years were filled with constant gigs from New Hampshire to Florida, more recording and a few television performances.
Roi appears in and wrote the score for the up and coming film titled Jersey Guy (not yet released) out of NYC. During this time Roi was busy recording their first full length CD entitled Intergalactic Rodeo. Nate was called away soon after the last track was finished, along with Mcgowan and Ron, so mike looked around and enlisted some great friends/musicians from his past musical endevors to bring the Rodeo to life on stage.Working with his current line-up in the studio as well, Mike has been recording new tracks for the next release.
With a heart for rock-n-roll and a head for melodies, the sound has been described as "hauntingly urgent". Featuring Americana lyrics of lost loves and hopes, chasing swingin' skirts and cars mixed with driving swampy rhythms and sexy slide guitar Intergalactic Rodeo is a colorful cross between U2 and the VERVE with a hint of Johnny Cash also described as “song driven rock.” See Roi live and witness the band harnesses their passion and musical synergy to perform an amazing stage show as the audience is drawn into the lyrical and rhythmic soundscapes of Intergalactic Rodeo. |

Press Reviews
`…the eclectic rock of Mike Roi –all in intimate setting that makes you feel like you’re discovering the next thing before the record labels do.`
-Roxanne Patel, Philadelphia Magazine
`…caught the attention of the Jersey Guy writing/directing team of Christ and Elia Zois (Christ previously scripted Abel Ferrara’s New Rose Hotel). They gave Roi full rein to score their romantic comedy about misfits from two sides of the General Pulaski Bridge. The band also gets to appear in a Jersey Guy scene filmed at Sway in Manhattan.`
– Philadelphia City Paper
`Intergalactic Rodeo is an eclectic mix of musical styles and poetic themes, all unified by passionate beats and sexy slide guitar… Mike Roi's striking, sultry vocals have an incredible style and emotional range that give Intergalactic Rodeo its fervent feel.`
