Artist History
Andy Thompson got an early start. Growing up in Minneapolis, he began piano lessons at the age of four and started composing his first pieces shortly thereafter. Violin, guitar, percussion and bass followed, and never one to limit himself to one genre, he graduated from high school having played more than his fair share of jazz, classical and rock and roll music.
Eventually he was accepted into the University of Michigan composition program, where he not only learned about composition, orchestration and music theory, but also something about himself: Rock and roll is his "thing." Of all the music he creates, it remains his most honest mode of expression, that which keeps him excited about music day after day. He'll most likely never give up jazz and classical music (and probably never prevent it from seeping into everything he writes), but rock, and more specifically power pop, continues to be his native tongue. |
