Artist History
Country musician Tammy Clowers is an up and coming talent from Sparwood, British Columbia, in the heart of the Canadian Rockies. Armed with a warm, melodic and powerful voice, not unlike that of a young Wynonna, she is a rising star in the country music sky.Tammy is primarily a bassplayer who never planned on a solo career in music. Her first aspiration was to be a professional "sideman". "I wanted to be one of the `Do-Rites' (Barbara Mandrell's band)", says Tammy. She spent her early years backing other singers and musicians and performing in a wide variety of musical groups. As an audio engineering student at Selkirk College she spent much time on both sides of the glass recording, mixing, producing and performing on dozens of student projects. Reserved and quiet by nature, she's only taken to center stage in the past year, but what a year it's been! She has performed at a variety of venues throughout Southeastern British Columbia and Southern Alberta often finding that rooms quickly fill with curious onlookers. Starting out on open mic nights, she worked her way into the spotlight and was asked to open for Canadian folk icons Pied Pumkin. (Shari Ulrich, Rick Scott, Joe Mock) (This evening was a reunion of sorts with Ulrich---Tammy was Ulrich's bassplayer back in 1997.) Her first solo recording project, a five-song CD demo of self-composed material, was recorded in October, and Tammy and two of these songs were featured on CISA-TV (Lethbridge).Tammy began writing in her late teens, taking third place in the East Kootenay Songwriting Contest with only the fourth tune she had ever written. Still, she doesn't profess to be a songstress. "I don't feel 100 percent comfortable claiming the `songwriter' title---at least not yet". Her works to date, however, show great potential. The strong family ties and simple values reflected in her lyrics are a refreshing voice in this modern age.Anyone who knows Tammy personally knows she is a consummate perfectionist. It is this quality that continually drives her to succeed---make each performance, recording, and composition better than the last. Highly competitive, she maintains a strong fist in the management of her career, all the while balancing it against a sense of humility, a strong work ethic, and a willingness to learn from others. As she says, "The most important thing I've learned is that I've still got A LOT to learn!"Two of her favorite teachers are Reba McEntire and Barbara Mandrell. From an early age, she has been diligently studying every move they make and credits them as her biggest influences. Their versatility as entertainers and business women, and their music encompassing both the traditional and crossover are the foundation of her knowledge. Perhaps wise beyond her years, Tammy has chosen to pursue a music career from her hometown. Although slightly removed from the "fast track", her desire for a comfortable quality of life outweighs all else. "I'm not a city person. I'll never be one. Life's just too short to be unhappy."A small town girl deeply rooted in country music---a new-traditionalist for the 21st century---with a voice, musicianship and stage presence that keeps improving in leaps and bounds. Expect to be hearing a great deal about her in the very near future. As Reba says, "The sky's the limit!" and it looks like Tammy is definitely ready for take-off! |
