Sanctioned Autobiographical Statement
Something Left After Misfortune (aka S.L.A.M.) was founded in Atlanta in 1999 by Chris Burkett (vocals), Toma Oliver (guitar), Chris Langley (drums) and Casey Kline (guitar). They set out to give rock music fans something new. Tiring of the “my dad spanked me too much” aggro rock spewing from the lips of upper middle income children posing as rock stars, the four decided that it was again time to make loud rock to convey more substantive messages.
Official band mission statement:
We sincerely strive to treat our fans as intelligent individuals and not degrade them by force spoon feeding stale ideas and trendy, glossy images and regarding them as a single mass particle. On a completely different note, our lead singer is an alien.
In 2002, S.L.A.M. recruited Brian Stanger (formerly of Big Hate) to play bass and add backing vocals. September 2002 will see the release of the band’s second EP, cleverly titled, Something Left After Misfortune (catch the double-entendre?).
Act now (!), and you will also receive:
- meticulously arranged, textured, dynamic guitar work
- fierce, dominating rhythms and percussion (intricate too!)
- thought provoking lyrical imagery
- live shows featuring an all out visual and aural assault of pure rock fury
Who we sound like: (hey, wait, you don’t need for us to tell you that!)
