    Artist History
Terra Incognita, the premier album from Digital Tides, is an effort rarely duplicated. Not only was the music produced by a 14-year-old whose previous credits included EnigmaZone.com ("Once you read it, you'll simply never be the same."--The Web in Review, 1999), but the same 14-year-old also designed all packaging and graphic design elements as well. In fact, without any outside assistance, the project was achieved in less than four months of mindbogglingly fast-paced work. "It was as if I didn't even have to think about it,, it just worked out so perfectly," David-Michael recalls, "I feel like I could never have pulled this off—it was as if the music bypassed me completely and went straight to the end result. I just let it work itself out."

    Instruments
D.M.'s music was produced in its entirety on a Power Macintosh G4 / 450 with a Casio CTK-611 keyboard, Yamaha F-310 accoustic guitar and an AudioTechnica microphone. (Proof that you don't need a gear rack to produce great music!) Songs were tested using a QPS QueFire! CD-R system. All files relating to the music were stored on an external Quantum-mechanism hard drive. Programs used were: Macromedia SoundEdit 16 version 2.0, IK's GrooveMaker 2, Propellerheads' REASON (a small bit), Casady & Greene's SoundJam MP and Apple's QuickTime Pro 5.0. This computer system has also been the only one used to design and update EnigmaZone.com for the past two years.

    Press Reviews
"Terra Incognita is a bold and visual journey through a wide range of soundscapes and musical genres, capturing a true synergy of timeless cultural references. At once familiar and yet surreal, the diverse instrumentation and unusual harmonic structures are skillfully woven into a dramatic synthesis, interspersed with "synapses" of pure color and polyphonic surprises. There are elements of jazz, rock, salsa, ethnic and world music, new age, and even classical music-- the resulting effect is continually entertaining, poetic, and compelling." "D.M. Cook's talent for many varied forms of musical expression, including jazz, rock, world music, heavy metal, pop, hip-hop, salsa and contemporary dance music, is quite evident from his first album. Each song ties together to create a uniquely enjoyable album that spans a wide range of genres and cultures. From the dark and mysterious title track, "Terra Incognita", to the roar and whine of heavy metal fury, "Phoenix Rising"; from the quiet, contemplative "Reflection" and the disturbingly surreal "MindDance" and "Cosmic Static" to the electronic dance-roar of "Tempest", Terra Incognita has something for everyone."
