DIABOLICAL EXPLOITS
This is Andy "Art of Ears" Ernst' band, and he really shows off some
slick-ass production on this CD. Andy also displays hi knack for writing decent melodic, mie-tempo rock/punk/ska tuns. "Half Way to Hell", the gem of the CD, has this kinda eerie 45 GRAVE-ish feeling. The weak point is their version of SCREECHING WEASEL's "The Science of Myth". Overall, this is pretty friggin' good. DIABOLICAL EXPLOITS “S/T”
This is the debut by the East Bay trio and it’s pretty good to say the least! The music is hard, urgent, and bass heavy with socially conscious lyrics about everyday life that anyone can relate to. Think mid period Rancid or “Juvenile Product of the Working Class” era Swingin’ Utters to get an idea of what I mean. All the songs are great but “Burning Effigy”, “I’m Not Alive” and their awesome Screeching Weasel cover of “The Science Of Myth” really stood out to me. These guys are going to be huge because they stand head and shoulders above a lot of the crap that’s been crawling out of San Francisco lately. This makes me fondly remember when Jawbreaker was king, Samiam didn’t suck, and Lookout had yet to go down the tubes. Punk is back in town all over the world so get with it!
