Artist History
Wyld Country will soon celebrate their tenth anniversary as a country/rock band. Founding members include Paul Maez, lead guitar and steel, Joe Jo Jo Aragon, percussion and vocals, and Richard Maestas, bass and vocals. Paul Maez and Joe Aragon have been friends since grade school. Paul was recently elected County Clerk for San Miguel County, New Mexico and Joe works for the plumbing and heating industry in Las Vegas, New Mexico. Richard has performed and toured with various bands including the Platters and works in law enforcement and serves on the City Council in Las Vegas, New Mexico.
Daniel Duran, lead vocals, guitar, and song writer joined Wyld Country straight out of high school, approximately seven years ago. Daniel currently works with the Las Vegas School System.
Roddy Gallegos, keyboards and vocals, joined Wyld Country shortly after Daniel and previously performed with various bands in the New Mexico area including Perfect Stranger. Roddy is the director of Lisboa Springs Fish Hatchery in Pecos, New Mexico.
Joe Salas, fiddle player and newest member of the band, has been with Wyld Country for three years. Joe is a middle school teacher in Santa Rosa, New Mexico. Joe has also played with several other bands in the New Mexico area.
Wyld Country has, and continues to tour Northern New Mexico, Southern Colorado and Western Texas playing at various night clubs and casinos, as well as weddings, family reunions and other special events - performing over 150 dates per year, while holding down full-time jobs, serving public office, raising families and remaining committed to music.
Wyld Country performs everything from country to classic rock, including northern New Mexican music (rancheras) and, of course, original music.
Wyld Country has been fortunate enough to open for various country acts including Eddy Raven, Michael Martin Murphy, Doug Supernaw, Ricochette, Rick Trevino, Blackhawk, and David Lee Murphy.
Wyld Country celebrated the millennium with the release of their first CD of all original music, The Storm. Daniel Duran wrote all of the songs on The Storm, sharing co-writing credits with Joe Aragon on two of the tracks. The band kept up their energetic pace throughout 2000 and competed with several New Mexico artists at the 2000 New Mexico State Fair - True Value Country Showdown, proudly taking home a second place trophy.
Wyld Country enjoys enormous local popularity, while continuing to expand their regional popularity and looks forward to exploring new venues and broadening their career as a band.
