Artist History
Paradox was formed in 1996 with members Peter Spier, Ken Wolcott, and Micah Wilson. The three performed a cover of "Machine Head" by Bush for a school talent show. Being only in 6th grade, it was a less than sweet performance. The next year, the band ceased operation due to Ken's exit. Ken formed a hardcore band named Sixpenny. Peter and Micah looked for a singer, as well as a bassist. One day, Micah heard some kid with spiky hair belting out Green Day lyrics on the school bus. It was Josh Albright, and Micah then asked him to come jam with him and Peter. Shortly after the first jam session, Josh agreed to join the band. However, Josh left the band to join the hardcore band Sixpenny, started by Ken months earlier. Josh stuck with Sixpenny until the end of the summer, but rejoined Paradox entering the eighth grade. Halfway through the year, Peter met Seth Woodward. Woodward, a violin player, joined the band, playing bass. The trio was now a complete group of four musicians, eager to 'not suck'. Their first song, "Everything's Wrong" was appropriately titled. The song was played for Battle of The Bands, along with a cover and another original "Cage", and they took home 'People's Choice Award'. Shortly after the festival, the song was scrapped. They went on, throughout the next couple of years writing songs such as "Fallen Angel" and "Questafreya", as well the acoustic piece "Goldfish" along with other various arrangements. Upon the fall of their 10th grade year, Seth and the band had too many disagreements and had different directions for the band. Seth parted ways with Paradox, and again, they were without a bassist. Luckily, Mark Zilar, an upperclassmen, joined the band. The band then decided that they would record an album, and focused primarily on writing and arranging music. The next year, Paradox started playing for the organization known as RAWK, and plays occasional shows for them at the Big Dipper. Then the boys went to College Road Recording to record their first album, titled Handcheck. |
