Artist History When JAVIER PERIANES (b.Nerva, Huelva, 1978) claimed victory at the 43rd International Piano Competition at Jaen, Spain in April 2001, one of the most prestigious and challenging contests of its kind in the world, he astonished the jury and the public alike for the depth and poetry of his magisterial performances, causing several critics to call him "the new Arrau". Indeed, in addition to the first prize, the jury, whose members included such distinguished musicans as Rosalyn Tureck, Dag Achatz, Guillermo Gonzalez Yukie Nagai and John Bell Young awarded him the Rosa Sabater prize for the best performance of a work of Spanish music (Albeniz's "El Polo) and for the best performacne of the commissioned contemporary work. Perianes began his studies with Julia Hierro, Lucio Munoz and Maria Rambaldo. During this period he obtained top honors, as well as winning numerous prizes. He continued his studies at the Upper Conservatory in Seville with Professor Ana Guijarro, where he was awarded the End of Course Special Prize. He has taken part in a number of recitals organized by Juventudes Musicales, as well as the XV and XVI Ayonte International Festival of Music, where he made his debut together with the Festiva's Baroque Orcehstra, In 1998 he took part in the Andalusian Circuit of Music, organized by the Junta (Regional Council) of Andalusia. In addition, he has performed with the Valles Symphony Orchestra at the Palau de la Musica Catalana, in Barcelona, with the Seville Royal Symphony Orchestra at the Teatro de La Maestranza,and also with the RTVE Symphony Orchesta at the Teatro Monumental in Madrid. He was a prizewinner, too, at the Maria Montiel Piano Competition, as well as being awarded the Special Prize for Best Interpretation of Spanish music. In 1996 he won Second Prize at the XII National Competition for Piano in the City of Melilla, Fit Prize at the VI National Competition for Piano in Carlet (Valencia) and also the Prize for Best Interpretation of Spanish music. In addition, he took First Prize at the XVI National Competition for Piano in Albacete. In 1998 he was awarded the Music Prize for Yung Performers at the Santa Isabel de Hungria Royal Academy of Belles-Artes in Sevilla (El Monte Foundation), First Prize at the Permanent Competition for Young Performers, organized by Juventudes Musicales of Spain, as well as Second Prize and the special "Manuel de Falla" Prize awarded by Juventudes Musicales of Granada. He also won the Piano Prize at the IX Annual Competition for the Furtherance of Studies, granted by Juevetudes Musicales of Madrid, and which is sponsored by the Fundacion Caja Madrid and Barclay's Bank. In November 2001, he was awarded third prize at the Greta Erickson European Competition in Karlstad, Sweden. He has attended master classes given by such prestigiou pianists and teachers as Ramon Coll, Frederic Gevers, Dmitri Bashkirov, Vitaly Margulis, Solomon Milkowsky, Jes's A. Rodriguez, Ilse Graubin, Sequeira Costa and Joaqyin Ach'carro. At present he is studying for his Postgraduate degree in the Royal Conservatory of Music in Madrid, under the tutelage of Ana Guijarro. .
