Artist description
Through a mix of harsh electronics with the edges only occasionally smoothed by infectious melodies, the Astronomer (aka Kyle Leffler) creates sonic artwork out of noise, static, tones, distortion, hisses, rhythms, blips, even forced mistakes. The Astronomer's intention, assuming he has only one, is to make the listener aware of the "music" only after they first hear the subsconscious layers of sound he just turned into conscious layers of sound. Kyle states, "The Astronomer manifesto is to continue challenging my songwriting techniques, search for new ways to create new sounds, disregard genres when songwriting, and avoid 'popular' conventions and tactics in songwriting as best as I can. To me an astronomer is essentially an explorer and with that you know a little more about why I chose the name. I'm under the 'electronic' genre only because I'm forced to be under something and I record my music on a computer and use some synthesizers and electric guitars and so forth - Well, I guess that means it's electronic, right? Ironically, the concept behind the Astronomer is to completely ignore genres when working on material for each new album. I don't listen to music in only one genre and therefore see little point boring myself making music in only one genre or subgenres of that genre. I could do what many others do and release music under different projects but I realized that would be defeating my original purpose. What better way to challenge listeners than to never really let them know what to expect next? In any case I could never guarantee if you like one Astronomer song you'll like them all. It just doesn't work that way with this project. But I'll always hope you enjoy the listening experience and take something personal from it. I'd say that's the ultimate goal of any artist." |
