    Artist History
Originating 20 miles north of the mexican border in Mission, TX, restless Dead would be the predacessor to the now infamouse Scarabaeus. When founding members Robert Canales (guitar), Robert Garcia (guitar), Michael Garcia (drums), and eventually Alex Mendez (vocals) started in '91 it was all just for the sheer pleasure of jaming with friends in their spare time. Well that extra time became few and far between so eventually restless dead was (excuse the pun) laid to rest. In 1998 with 7 years worth of "what might have been" on their minds and not to mention a real need to be loud and hard, the band regrouped with a few changes. Now known as Scarabaeus (an ancient egyption symbol for the human soul, immortality) the new line up replaced drummer Michael Garcia with Danny Saenz and aded bassist Chris Cook to the remaining three. With abundant talent and a kick ass sound the band began a gruelling year of practicing and preparing to take the death metal scene to new levels of power. December of '99 was the first time Scarabaeus would be in the public spotlight playing at the Salinas Sun Palace for a crowd of around 150 people. After pulling an all nighter with six other bands the owner of the Sun Palace informed all attending bands that due to the quote "type of crowd" and rowdiness, future appearances there would not be tolerated. However not to be discouraged, Scarabaeus went on to play a killer show at Trenton Point in McAllen on Febuary 4 2000. And due to the overwhelming support from not only the fans but also the owners, the band has returned many times to Trenton Point playing for in excess of 300 people at one of the more recent shows. Another local club that has been very accomadating is Metropolis which the band has played a few times. Many other shows followed including the first road trip to Temple TX, where the metal scene was alive and kicking; a spring break appearance at Pirates Den on SPI; a few trips to Mexico including Reynosa and Matamoras; two trips to club Fitzgeralds in Houston and shows in Dallas. But the bands pride and joy is the the Metal Resolution which celebrated its second year and is one hell of a way to bring in the new year. Although Scarabaeus has a sound all its own, main influences include Slayer, King Diamond, Morbid Angel and Death with respect to Carcas, Obituary, Suffocation and Creator. Following in the footsteps of the above mentioned greats, Scarabaeus wrote and recorded their all original Demo Thirst for Blood. The low budget demo was distributed at shows to the audiance for about four months. Now with more experiance (and better recording equipment) the band has released its new album The Lost Temple of Knowledge.
