This is what "hogfeldt" at StonerRock.com had to say about the three track demo "Dwarves of Might"
The intro to the first tune out, ”Dwarves Of Might” (yeah, this one I could figure out what it was called, hehe), has something that made me think of Wino rightaway... you know that special Spirit Caravan and Obsessed riffage... More doom in the sound than what’s usual when I get a demo sent to me from a new band, which is great... you can only stand so many Kyuss and Fu Manchu rip-offs 'til you get bored... Here you’ll get more of the Sabbath, Goatsnake and Spirit Caravan influences instead... which is the way to go in my book, ”the market” seems to be a ”little” oversaturated when it comes to Kyuss clones nowadays...
The second tune has all the good qualities of the first one... and then some... and its quite refreshing when a singer in a band like this doesn’t try to emulate that Ozzy sound... Gate9 once again made the right choice...
The last tune has that Sabbath vibe when it comes to the riffage... huge riffs that oozes of doom... then the guitars turns a little jazzier, only turn back towards the heavier stuff in the chorus... another great tune...
I’m already looking forward to the next demo from this Norwegian band... This demo had zero Kyuss influences, so here’s a lesson for other new bands: stay away from the Kyuss stuff if you wanna get a good review outta me, hehe... |
