Artist description
Avoiding Will are a band from the UK taking the old DC emocore sound and mixing it with modern hardcore. Starting in 1998 were John, Chris and Mark who decided they would take their musical interests to form a band. At first they sounded like a cross between REM and Weerzer and gradually got more indie and punk influences but most of all through Johns love of the old DC scene, emocore and emo (not the new crap you hear on the TV or radio). In December 2002, Rob joined to take over from Chris on bass. Chris was in fact a guitarist playing bass before this and it was a great relief for him to take up the reins back on his guitar. John took to concentrated lead vocals and jagged guitar work whilst Mark gained his teaching certificate for drums, aged 17. The band have come a long way since five years back and have slowly but surely blended their own style together, each band member being into different bands.
Avoiding Will play both heavy and melodic songs aswell as mellower anthems. Most of the lyrics come from John but increasingly and notably much better now, the band are writing various parts of music for songs and piecing them together. 'I feel that the band is really reaching the stage of achievement now because all of us are writing our own individual music when we bring about a new song. Its good to have all of us being creative rather than people telling each other what to do' - John. Currently studying in higher education it has become more difficult to get time out to practice, record and play shows but the band will always hold education as a back-up plan. With any luck, these four guys from the Wirral will be putting together their first full-length over the next year and bringing out a few demo's before that too. Take it easy. |
